Practice makes perfect?
Well, yes it does but even if you are not necessarily striving for perfection it will help you to establish and reinforce what you have learned in the lesson and also help your brain and your body memorise the actions needed to achieve a task.
Don't binge work!
Even if you haven't got much time to practise it is better if you pick up the instrument for a few minutes a day and go over the crucial bits a couple of times than to leave it for days, then work for hours on a problem and then leave it again. It is repetition that makes the difference.
Be creative!
Creativity when you are practising is important. The brain very quickly gets used to patterns and then just automatically recalls them. Trick your brain by playing something backwards, or change the rhythm, turn the bow around, even transpose the whole section a tone up or a tone down! The hands and fingers will still do the work and when you then go back to the original it feels easier.
There are many ways of practising and targeting a problem, I will show you how in the lessons.
Don't be afraid of practising, make it fun and enjoy it!
