Exams / Auditions

I think being a musician requires a specific knowledge about how to behave and look depending on the situation or event and in order to achieve our goals.

I believe that if you take an audition or exam you have to be fully prepared to make a complete performance.

It is absolutely essential to sleep well the night before and to eat a healthy breakfast on the day. Also, do not forget to drink lots of water. It helps us to stay calm and focused.

I learned that the first impression is very important so greet the panel politely and in a friendly manner.  I would also advise anyone to look smart but modest.

If you can, warm up at home. Once you get to the venue, do not listen to others practising their material.

I think it is also important to rehearse with the pianist ahead: remember to have a spare score for the panel and to be confident to lead the accompanist if he chooses the wrong tempo.

Also, after the audition or the exam finish you can thank the panel for their time.
