About Matthew

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been teaching privately for the past 7 years. In this time I have taught all ages and skills, from beginner to post grad 8. Some of my students have gone on to win places in UK conservatoires.
As well as private students I also work for Bristol Plays Music and the educational branch of Bristol Ensemble, Preludes.

As a freelance performer I regularly play in various orchestras and chamber ensembles.
I am also an experienced flute repairer, so can help solve any technical problems!

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have an enhanced DBS check and have completed NSPCC child protection training.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Jonathan Burgess (WNO), Sarah Newbold (LPO, WNO, Academy of St Martin and freelancer) and Roger Armstrong (BBC NOW, Bristol Ensemble). I have also studied abroad with Lorna Mcghee and William Bennett.
Throughout the past year I have studied with various teachers in the UK and aboard including Wissam Boustany and Prof. Robert Winn.
I am currently mentored by Robert Manasse.
All of these are top professional players and as well as advancing my own studies I feel I have experienced a wide range of teaching styles, which has really helped me find my own style.
