Personal Message: I am a musician who primarily plays and teaches jazz music but am also trained in classical music so can cover any style desired. I focus on learning the instrument and then applying it to all genres.
Which subject(s) do you teach?: I teach Double Bass and Bass Guitar but also music theory and composition
Tell me about your qualifications.: I am graduating from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in summer 2012 with a BMus (Hons) degree. From this I have trained in teaching all age groups as well as composition and performance.
What kind of experience do you have?: As a performer I have played all around the world, including a folk/jazz tour of China in 2009, functions in Europe and performing on 'The World' cruise ship playing in Israel, Madagascar and South Africa. I have performed all around the UK's best jazz venues with many top musicians and am part for the band Lacuna which is having its first album released on Babel in September 2012. I have also lead many large workshops teaching improvisation to children and professional classical musicians
How much do you charge?: I charge £25 for an hour and depending on what works best we can discuss weather you want to travel to me or me to you where extra travel costs can be sorted out.
Where do you teach?: I teach from home which is located in the centre of cardiff and have pupils come from the south wales area. I also travel to teach when more convenient but extra charges on travel apply.
When are you available?: I can work to the pupils schedule and arrange different times and days where appropriate
Which ages and levels do you teach?: I teach all ages and all levels. I have also done a lot of teaching intensively for pupils auditioning for music colleges.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?: I am happy to prepair students for graded exams and auditions for performance degrees but I am equally happy to teach for practical musicians who don't want qualifications
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?: I have one up to summer 2012 and will be renewing it then.
Where and with whom did you train?: I have trained with Elisabeth Harre, Paula Gardiner, Dudley Phillips and Nick Weldon
Tell me about some of your current students.: I have a number of students preparing for auditions for music colleges (at RWCMD I am part of the audition band) as well as students with a keen music as a hobby.
Do you have a personal message for students?: I am a professional and friendly teacher who wants to inspire and pass on the love of music, what ever genre it is!

Playing Jazz Bass

Playing the bass is more about being a general musician that can play any genre. In my playing I strive for this and hopefully one day I will be at a place when I am happy. But if you are willing, it is possible to apply this to lessons and master the instrument as well as all genres.
