- Personal Message
- I am willing to teach all brass instruments and specialise in Trombone.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach all brass instruments and theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music for 6 years gaining a BMus(hons) and MMus in Solo Performance. I also hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Central Lancashire.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching for many years both privately and for various music services around the North West. I have also trained various ensembles including the brass section of the Halle Youth Orchestra. As a performer I have performed with the Halle Orchestra; Manchester Camerata and the National Festival Orchestra as well as many brass bands, including Brighouse and Rastrick; Grimethorpe Colliery; Leyland and Williams Fairey. I am also a member of an award winning Brass Quintet and the UK's first Brass Dubstep band "Hot Botz Brass Band". As a young musician I played in Wigan and Bolton Music Service ensembles, St Helens Youth Brass Band, Halle Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
- How much do you charge?
- In general I charge £30 per hour, extra fees regarding travel are dependant on mileage but this is kept to an absolute minimum.
- Where do you teach?
- I usual teach at home but I am willing to travel dependant on distance.
- When are you available?
- I arrange each of my lessons on an individual basis and try to accommodate all.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I am willing to teach all ages and levels. Occasionally I will suggest to students that they go to an instrument specialist should they want to take their studies to a level which I think a specialist of their own instrument would be more beneficial to them.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes- for 8 different councils!
My Articles
Daily Technique
For more advanced players who are looking to improve their technique may I recommend the book "Circuit Training" by Peter Gane as published by Warwick Music. I have found this book to include all basic (and some more advanced) technique that enables me to carry on with my day to day playing without any difficulties.
