- Personal Message
- Music is for people of all ages and standards. Through my personal experience I help students to learn about themselves and ways of communicating with others. I teach in both English and Spanish.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach cello, violin, piano, and music theory, and I am happy to give chamber music coaching too.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I studied music at the Joaquin Turina Conservatoire in Madrid for 10 years, after which I got my Professional degree in Music. I then got my BMus Hons degree from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where I studied with Stefan Popov and Leonid Gorokhov and a PGDid and MMus from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where I studied with Johannes Goritzki.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching for over 10 years and have had students of all ages and levels, from age 5 to 61, and from complete beginner to diploma standard. I also have a wealth of experience as a performer - both as a soloist and as a chamber/orchestral player.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £30 per hour, but an extra charge may be applicable if I need to travel outside of zones 1-3, or if travel time extends beyond 1hr.
- Where do you teach?
- I live in near Ealing Common tube station, where I sometimes teach, but I mainly travel to student's homes. I live close to Acton and Chiswick, but also teach around London in areas including Brixton, Clapham, and Knightsbridge.
- When are you available?
- I can teach on all weekdays and at the weekend, but flexibility may be needed due to my performance schedule. Once lessons have been set up I ask for 48hrs notice should you wish to cancel. This does not apply if we are able to rearrange for another time that week.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and ability levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I prepare pupils for all exam boards, from beginners up to Grade 8 and beyond, but am also happy just teaching for fun if you don't want to take the exam route.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- None of my teaching has required a CRB check so far but I would be happy to organise one if necessary.

Teaching the Cello
Teaching is, in my opinion, one of the most important things a musician and performer can do. Not only does it provide the potential for a reliable source of income, but it is also as informative, if not more so, for the teacher than it is for the student. When learning an instrument from scratch, especially at a young age, the student has...
My Testimonials

I have been taking cello lessons with Alba for about three months, and find her a delightful teacher. In the short period she has been teaching me I have found a previously unimaginable level of musical confidence, and I find I am increasingly able to distinguish relative pitch and tone. Alba is a very patient and encouraging teacher. She instils a firm focus on correctly mastering the basics, and seems to have limitless patience for my mistakes. She is always well turned out, polite and punctual. - Hugh (cello) |

I have been learning the cello with Alba for just over a year and have loved every second. She is very exacting about technique and establishing a strong foundation but she also makes it so much fun. I tried learning the violin once and hated it but she has brought me around to loving string instruments. I couldn't have wished for a better teacher - James (cello) |
