- Personal Message
- I am an experienced, highly qualified tutor and published writer with a background in both school teaching and higher education.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach English Language and Literature, Philosophy, Critical Thinking and Media Studies. I also help students to prepare for university entrance and to improve their essay writing and study skills.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a BA in English from Oxford University and an MA and PhD in Philosophy from Essex University.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have extensive teaching experience in secondary, higher and further education. I've taught GCSE and A level English in school and college and, on gaining my PhD, worked as a university lecturer in Philosophy. Now a published author, I combine my writing career with private tuition. I teach both my disciplines of English and Philosophy, along with the related subjects of Critical Thinking and Media Studies. As an experienced private tutor, I'm familiar with the requirements of the main exam boards.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge a flat fee of £35 per teaching hour. An initial meeting with the student and parent, if appropriate, is free-of-charge.
- Where do you teach?
- Most of my teaching takes place at my home in Crystal Palace, and my students tend to come from surrounding areas in South London such as Dulwich, Streatham, Beckenham and Croydon, as well as Sydenham and the Norwoods.
- When are you available?
- I generally teach in the afternoons and evenings. In the run-up to exams, (January, June), I may also see students on Saturdays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach students at GCSE and A-level, so 14-18. Sometimes I prepare older students for re-sits, and for university entrance. I can also help with essay writing at degree level, and am pleased to see adults who want to improve their writing skills for academic or professional reasons.
