- My name is Alison Comerford and I am an Irish violinist studying and working in London. I have been playing the violin since the age of four. I love teaching keen students.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach the violin. My principal study at Guildhall is violin however this year I am doing second study viola and so could also offer lessons in this. I can also help with basic theory and musicianship.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have grade 8 violin and grade 5 piano. I also have grade 5 theory. I am currently in my fourth year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying classical violin.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have experience teaching group violin lessons, one to one lessons and also large scale workshops. With my quartet the Cassian Quartet I have given workshops in the Wigmore Hall to young children as part of the chamber tots scheme. I am also a regular tutor on chamber music courses run by the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras. Last year I went to Iceland with a group of international conservatoire students to teach workshops with school children from the ages of 5 to 18.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £30 per hour or £20 per half hour. However if I have to travel very far I charge extra for travel expenses.
- Where do you teach?
- As I live in a small flat, I do not teach at home. I live ten minutes away from Angel and 15 minutes from Barbican. I am willing to travel to your house however if it is very far out I will have to charge travel expenses.
- When are you available?
- I am available most evenings and most weekends. I understand that most parents and students have varying time tables and so I am flexible with my time.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and levels. I have a lot of experience with children from the ages of 4 and upwards.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I do not have a CRB.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- I belong to the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I studied for 4 years with Gregory Ellis the leader of the Vanburgh Quartet in Ireland and for the last three years I have been studying with Pauline Scott at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
