- I am a cellist who has recently moved to the Wanstead area. I'm looking for enthusiastic students who want regular lessons for enjoyment or for exams. Please get in touch! www.amyjolly.co.uk
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I primarily teach classical cello but I can also help with music theory and beginner violinists/violists/pianists. I'm quite happy to help with whatever you want to achieve including exams, auditions, help with orchestral parts and theory tests. I also offer a practice-supervision service - this can be invaluable support for parents who are bewildered by their child's practice!
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a Bachelor degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Music and am about to graduate from the Master of Arts degree at the Royal Academy of Music. I also hold an LRAM teaching qualification which I was awarded in 2011.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have taught privately for many years, teaching students ranging from young children to 80 year old amateurs. I am a teacher for Wandsworth Music Service and am on the teaching faculty at the Oxford Cello School.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £35 per hour. If you prefer me to travel to your house I may have to charge extra to cover time and transport costs.
- Where do you teach?
- I'm available to teach at home most weekdays. I don't have a car but I am happy to travel around the Ilford/Wanstead/South Woodford/Woodford/Walthamstow/Leytonstone areas and anywhere along the Eastern Central Line.
- When are you available?
- I am flexible with times and my schedule is often changing so lessons can be made on a weekly basis, however I will try (if you prefer) to keep to a set time. Weekends and evenings are often possible.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I have taught groups and individuals of all ages and I'm happy to work with any level.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I am more than happy to help with ABRSM or Trinity exam preparation up to diploma level and I currently hold a 100% distinction rate with my current and past students.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I do not recommend this as a sole method for learning cello but if we miss a lesson one week I am quite happy to offer advice over Skype or on the phone!
- Where and with whom did you train?
- Bjorn Bantock: pre-higher education
Jakob Kullberg: Royal Danish Academy of Music
Valter Despalj: Zagreb Academy of Music
Josephine Knight: Royal Academy of Music

Chopin Polonaise & the 'Virtuoso'
The definition of the term 'virtuoso' has not always been thought of as we do today. The meaning has changed from one of rather derogatory terms – the 14th century virtuoso singers improvised so much of what they performed that they were thought to have been possessed: “a bevy of singers who so embellished and ornamented the Church melodies of...
