- Personal Message
- I have researched many approaches to learning, each of my students benefit from a personal learning program that emphasises their strengths and provides support where it is needed.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I’m happy to teach all standard electric and acoustic guitar styles, from beginner to advanced levels, and I specialise in acoustic American folk. I have experience teaching KS3, GCSE and A-Level music and music technology to full size school classes.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a music and sound engineering degree from Rose Bruford Performing Arts College. This wide-ranging degree has given me experience in all areas of music composition, performance and production across several genres.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have experience working as a sound engineer for studios around Manchester and London. I have composed for rock and experimental groups and performed as a session guitarist for several hiphop and pop artists, along with some successful function bands.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £20 p/h, or £12 per half hour for lessons at my home. I am able to travel to places close by, however time/distance and the affect it may have on my other lessons need to be considered - usually I will require an additional £5 for the extra time this costs. I am happy to teach up to two students at a time for £25 p/h or £16 per half hour - this is a price reduction per student.
- Where do you teach?
- I usually teach from home in Heaton Moor and the majority of my students come from Heaton Chapel, Stockport, Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall, Wilmslow, Didsbury and other Manchester areas.
- When are you available?
- I am currently in the process of making guitar tuition my primary income. Therefore, I have very flexible availability and will be arranging my long-term teaching periods around the requests of the first few additional students. I'm happy to teach daytimes or evenings, and I'm particularly looking for students who can do Fridays or Sundays. Please contact me for further discussion.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages from year 7 upwards, and any ability level beginner to advanced. For those looking to specialise, I can help most with acoustic folk music, open tunings and fingerpicking styles.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- Some of my students have followed their musical interests as part of their education, choosing to do Music GCSE’s, Music/Music Technology A-levels and related University degrees. This is a process I have been happy to support with my knowledge and expertise, often putting down the guitars to concentrate on exam preparation or coursework material. I recently completed the first section of a Music PGCE, becoming responsible for the music education of over 250 high school and college students along the way. This provided a unique opportunity to tailor my teaching to compliment the school education process, and I am happy to take on students for short ‘booster’ periods, before their exams, or college/university interviews etc.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Due to school teaching, I have an up-to-date CRB certificate available for any prospective student to see.
- Do you have a personal message for students?

Essay on Learning to Teach
Using experience gained from lesson observations, lesson planning, delivery, reflection and wider reading, this essay will explore two factors that I consider to contribute to effective teaching and learning. Firstly, the relationship that exists between class and teacher, and secondly the ability to adapt lesson delivery to maximise engagement...
