- Personal Message
- I am an experienced tutor and examiner and aim to teach English at the highest level to ensure improvement and success.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach English and study skills at all levels and I also prepare students for drama school auditions.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- These include BA Hons English, PGCE, a post-graduate Diploma in Social Administration and Solicitors’ Examinations.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- A level, GCSE and International Baccalaureate teaching and examining have been a central part of my career, but I have also taught English at all levels from literacy and as a second language to research skills and essay structure for struggling undergraduates.
Throughout my career I have also been interested in the process of learning and I have set up study skills centres in two large London colleges and worked 1:1 with many students who were having difficulty with essays, note taking and time management. Frequently these students were studying subjects other than literature and sometimes were dyslexic. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £30 per hour for GCSE and £35 for other subjects.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at home in Ealing. Parking is available in the street except for the hours of 10-11 and 3-4. The Piccadilly Line is 10 minutes walk away and the District and Central Line about 15 minutes.
- When are you available?
- At the moment I have spaces in the late afternoon on Mondays and Tuesdays and also on Saturday afternoon.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I usually teach students from the age of 14 as that is when serious preparation begins for public exams.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I prepare students for GCSE, A level and the International Baccalaureate.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- No.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I studied at University College London, the London School of Economics and the College of Law. I have also done acting training at the Questors Theatre.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- Recent tutees have included an A level student who had difficulty understanding texts and structuring essays, a GCSE student who found Shakespeare baffling, an adult student applying independently to university and one preparing audition speeches for drama school.
My Articles
From a Literature Examiner's Desk
When I meet a new tutee for the first time for help with literature, I ask them what they want from their sessions with me. Invariably they say 'I want an A*’ or the equivalent in the exam they are taking. Given my extensive experience as a teacher and as an examiner for A level, GCSE and International Baccalaureate Literature, I suppose that...
