Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach The Alexander Technique.
I also tutor children one-to-one in Maths and English.

Tell me about your qualifications.
As well as having a normal teaching degree (B.Ed. Hons.) from Sussex University, I qualified as a teacher of The Alexander Technique in 1989 having completed a three year training course at The New Alexander School in Hampstead, London.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have experience of teaching a wide range of people (mainly, but not exclusively, adults) in The Alexander Technique both in this country and abroad.
I have taught English and Maths in schools and privately one-to-one. I also mark KS2 SATS papers.

How much do you charge?
The first lesson in the Alexander Technique costs £35 for about 45 minutes. After that lessons are £30 each for 30 to 40 minutes.
For the private tutoring I charge £20 per hour for children in KS2 and £21 per hour for those in secondary school.

Where do you teach?
As an Alexander Technique teacher I work in Nottingham, both at The Filshie Osteopathic Clinic in Sherwood and in Carlton. There is easy parking at both places and they are on direct bus routes from the centre of town.
For the tutoring I see children in their own homes within a three or four mile radius of my own home in NG4.

When are you available?
I work as an Alexander Technique Teacher in Sherwood on Monday and Thursday mornings. In Carlton I work Wednesday and Friday mornings, Thursday afternoons and evenings.
I am available to see children after school on Mondays and Tuesdays, occasionally at weekends and during school holidays.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and levels of expeience.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes.

Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to The Society of Teachers of The Alexander Technique (STAT).

Where and with whom did you train?
I also completed a post graduate training in The Alexander Technique with Walter Carrington at The Constructive Teaching Centre in Holland Park, London.

Tell me about some of your current students.
The children I currently tutor range in age from 8 to 15 years. The youngest I started seeing when he was 6 in Year 2. One of the oldest is working towards Module 10 GCSE Maths.

One-to-One Tuition

TUITION Whatever their level of ability, children usually respond very well to one-to-one tuition. They thrive on the attention and I work hard to build a rapport as quickly as I can with each child as that is so important in their motivation and learning process. If a child is struggling to...
