About Austin
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have had 6 years of teaching experience in a one-to-one setting or in groups and have a 100% exam pass rate. I regularly play with amateur orchestras. My method of teaching is focused more on the technical side of playing; however I do incorporate the expressive side of playing later depending on how well the student has grasped the technical side. I believe that technique comes before expression and the basics have to be thoroughly learnt before adding any other more advanced aspects of music. I tend not to teach technique alongside with expression/emotions as I feel that will overcrowd the brain and the speed of learning an instrument will decrease and frustration will set in. However students learn in different ways and I believe my experience enables me to adapt my teaching method accordingly to help students and their parents fully understand what music is about, why/what certain things need to be done to progress at a steady rate.

I teach Oboe, Piano, Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, Guitar, Bass Guitar and Musical Saw

I have a Masters of Music Post Graduate degree in Woodwind instruments
- How much do you charge?
I offer a 30 minute trial lesson @ £12.50. Beginner rates are £15 for 30 minutes, £20 for 45 minutes and £25 for 1 hour. Intermediate rates are £20 for 30 minutes, £25 for 45 minutes and £30 for 1 hour. Advanced rates are £30 for 30 mins, £35 for 45 minutes and £40 for 1 hour. I offer a 10% discount if you would like to pay in advance for 5-10 lessons. Discounts also apply to family units or students wishing to have lessons on more than one instrument.
- Where do you teach?
I teach in a block of music rooms on a College campus. The address is Newbold College, St Marks Road, Binfield, Berks, RG42 4AN. The nearby towns are Bracknell or Reading in the County of Berkshire. I am willing to travel 5 miles.
- When are you available?
I am available from 15:30 Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and I am available all day Fridays until 16:00. I do some teaching on Sunday mornings too if necessary.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and all levels depending on which instrument it is.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I use ABRSM and Trinity examining boards.
