Personal Message: Hi! I am a fourth year physics student at Imperial College. Alongside this I am also studying classical and jazz saxophone at the Royal College of Music. I love to teach all ages and promise to always be an enthusiastic and friendly tutor.
Which subject(s) do you teach?: I teach classical saxophone and recorder to all ages, and from beginner to grade 8. I can also coach maths and physics up to GCSE standard, and maths and generic science to younger ages.
Tell me about your qualifications.: I am currently studying at university for a BSc in Physics and Music. I have A grades in Maths, Further Maths and Physics A-Level, as well as a B in History and an A grade in AS-Level Chemistry. I have numerous A* and A grades in a broad base of GCSEs including the sciences, maths, music, humanities and language. I have been playing music since I was four and hold grade 8 in piano, saxophone and recorder. I also have a diploma from ABRSM in saxophone and recorder and am currently studying under Martin Robertson and Andy Panayi at the Royal College of Music in London.
What kind of experience do you have?: I have performed across the world both as a soloist and working with other artists and within bands, including New York, Berlin, Beijing and in and around London. I also helped at jazz music summer schools for three years and have attended a countless workshops and residential courses where I had amazing opportunities to learn from many of the best educators in music. All this has given me the knowledge, as well as the confidence and desire to pass it on to fellow musicians. I am always being helped and always help others with aspects of their performance, or technical points or their playing wherever possible and absolutely love to do so! Within academia, the key is to work hard to understand topics and the background of a question, and then you are able to prepare precise and concise answers. This is of course difficult but what I always strive for and love to help others to achieve.
How much do you charge?: My fee is set at £25 per hour for both academic sessions and technical instrumental lessons. I will never charge for travel expenses and, for music lessons, am an able pianist and more than happy to accompany students in lessons and exams. If students would like joint tuition then this is absolutely fine and a discount rate (to be negotiated) is of course possible.
Where do you teach?: I can visit you at your home/chosen venue for tuition. In special circumstances I can also book a large room with a grand piano at Imperial College, South Kensington, in preparation for accompanied performances or exams. I am based in South Kensington and Fulham, but can travel to Knightsbridge, Bayswater, Hammersmith, Shephard's Bush, Battersea, Chelsea and the nearby areas.
When are you available?: Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings are the times when I am most free. Saturday and Sunday mornings are also possible as is the occasional daytime slot during the week; should a lesson need to be rescheduled or an extra one fitted in for any reason.
Which ages and levels do you teach?: I tutor all ages; from the very young, to adult. In both the music and the field of academia, beginners to a subject or instrument are as welcome as those who are familiar with it. Concerning music tuition, I help students up to a level at which they can happily pass Grade 8 exams, if they wish to do so.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?: I can help students prepare for GCSE exams or other end of year, school exams if a syllabus/spare text book can be spared (just so I can be well prepared and know exactly what needs covering in coaching sessions). For instrumental lessons, I teach for pure enjoyment, or can help students to pass grade exams (Trinity and ABRSM are the most common) up to Grade 8.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?: No.
Do you have a personal message for students?: Whoever your tutor is, the important thing is that you enjoy your sessions. However cliche this sounds, learning really is fun and so is music making, always have a good time with what your doing!
