Ben read music at Cambridge University, specialising in composition under Giles Swayne and Graham Ross. He was Organ Scholar at St. Catharine’s College and has toured with the Chapel Choir to Denmark, Prague and China. Here he also helped to found the first collegiate choir for girls in the UK. In 2009 his string quartet ‘In Memoriam’ was chosen by the Imperial War Museum and Royal Philharmonic Society for the sound archive in the museum’s new gallery, resulting in a position as RPS Young Artist. His first opera ‘Sursum Corda’ was written and premiered under his direction in 2010, and recently a set of canticles commissioned by his college were premiered in St. Paul’s Cathedral. As a regular Musical Director at The Playhouse, Ealing, Ben led Questors Youth Theatre to the finals of the 2011 National Theatre Connections project. He is currently Musical Director of London theatre group 'The Ruby Dolls', their latest production having sold out this January at Riverside Studios, Hammersmith in preparation for a run at the Edinburgh International Festival and a following UK tour. Ben has taught and accompanied at Birmingham School of Acting and Oxford School of Drama, and has led workshops at London Studio Centre. After touring with Youth Music Theatre UK, he now accompanies for the musical theatre course at the Royal Academy. Recent projects include a production of Sondheim’s ‘Assassins’ for Birmingham School of Acting, a new opera by Jonathan Pease - ‘Things Things Happen’, and a production of Sullivan and Burmand’s ‘Cox and Box’ with New London Opera Group. He continues to run two choirs in Ealing, whilst also offering private voice and keyboard tuition.
