- Personal Message
- With 10 years' experience teaching EFL in the UK and in the Czech Republic, Sri Lanka and, most recently, Mozambique, I can help you achieve your goals.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach all aspects of EFL, including Cambridge exams, IELTS and conversation.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a BA in History from the University of Exeter (1972), a CELTA (2001), an MA in TESOL (2006) and Level 5 Cambridge Certificate in Further Education Teaching and Certificate for ESOL Subject Specialists (2008).
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have taught EFL for 10 years in the UK and in the Czech Republic, Sri Lanka and Mozambique. In that time, I have covered all aspects of EFL from beginner to advanced level. I have coached for the Cambridge exams, IELTS, and given general conversation lessons. I have recently retired from class teaching so that I can concentrate on 1-to-1 tutoring. Previous experience of individual teaching includes Business English in multinational companies and general English. I have also been a Cambridge Assessor for ESOL Speaking and Listening exams at all levels.
- How much do you charge?
- I give a free 30 minute needs analysis so that I can recommend a suitable course of lessons. I then charge £30 for EFL and £35 for Cambridge exams and IELTS. Payment is weekly in advance.
- Where do you teach?
- I usually teach in the student's workplace, or a mutually convenient location such as a library or cafe. I am based in Kingston but will travel to nearby places such as Richmond, Twickenham, Wimbledon, Surbiton and New Malden - anywhere that is between 30 and 45 minutes from Kingston by public transport.
- When are you available?
- I am available during the day from Monday to Friday.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- 18+
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- Cambridge exams and IELTS.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Not required for teaching adults.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- International House, London. Institute of Education, London, Hammersmith and West London College.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Self-study is very important, but sometimes working with a tutor can make all the difference, not just with helping you improve your English, but also learning exam techniques and study skills.
