Personal Message

Learning to play the piano helps you to develop both musical skills such as reading music and improvising, and also life skills such as concentration, logical analysis, self ex<x>pression and so on. My lessons encourage a relaxed, fun approach to learning the piano, and I aim to pass on my enthusiasm and nurture a lifelong interest in this rewarding instrument.

Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Piano (all genres - classical, blues, jazz etc).

Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold an MA from Cambridge University, an Associate Diploma with Distinction from Trinity Guildhall and the Certificate of Teaching from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have studied with Nelly Ben-Or, international concert pianist, professor at the Guildhall and the leading exponent of the application of the Alexander Technique in piano playing. I first started teaching piano when I was 13, mentored by my own piano teacher, and I now teach full time, mainly from my piano studio at home, and also in a local independent school. Ongoing professional development is important to me, please see above for my piano teaching qualifications.

How much do you charge?
I offer a free consultation prior to starting lessons. Each lesson is then charged at £40 per hour (or part thereof). Adult lessons are usually booked for 1 hour or 45 minutes, once or twice a week. Lessons for children are normally 45 or 30 minutes.

Where do you teach?
I teach from home on the cusp of N1 and EC1. Old Street, Moorgate, Liverpool St and Barbican stations are all a short walk away, and Bank, St. Paul's and Angel stations are about a twenty minute walk away. I do not travel to students' homes.

When are you available?
I teach on weekdays in term time, with some additional lessons available ad hoc during the holidays and half terms. Lessons are offered from 7.30am - 7.30pm, subject to availability.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach adults of all ages, and children from age five. All levels are welcome. If you have any specific questions or concerns we can discuss them in the free consultation.

Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for classical and jazz grades, with TCL or the ABRSM.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes I hold a recent CRB Enhanced Disclosure certificate, and have worked extensively with children in the past.

Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM).
