Personal Message: Hi, I am a norwegian violinist living and working in London. I am looking for an enthusiastic violin/viola or Norwegian-language student. Please be in touch if you want to learn to play the violin or improv your Norwegian.
Which subject(s) do you teach?: I teach violin, viola and Norwegian. I play both modern violin and baroque violin and have played viola since the age of 14.
Tell me about your qualifications.: I finished my bachelor degree in performing violin in 2010 at Barratt Due Institute of Music. This is one of the best schools for playing the classical violin in Norway. I also taught Junior students at Barratt Due with great success after finishing a course in teaching children as part of my bachelor. At Guildhall School of Music and Drama I studied a postgraduate degree with the famous prof. David Takeno.
What kind of experience do you have?: I have worked as a violin teacher for Bestum Primary School and Vestre Aker Orchestra in Oslo.
I have had several Juniors at Barratt Due Institute of Music including private students not enrolled in a music school.
Since January 2012, I am a member of Southbank Sinfonia (SbS 10) in London.
How much do you charge?: Consultation lesson for free.
£30 an hour for any lesson taught on the violin, viola or in chamber music groups.
£20 for half an hour.
£25 for lessons in Norwegian. If I have to travel outside zone 2, it will be an an additional cost to cover my travel expenses.
Where do you teach?: I can travel to zone 1-2 in London (and possibly zone 3 North London) and also teach at home in Willesden Green, Cricklewood in London (NW2).
When are you available?: I am working in an orchestra from January to October 2012 but will be free every monday, friday and weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?: I teach any age and at any level. I am also experienced in teaching young children music theory.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?: I follow the Associated Board (ABRSM) syllabus.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?: I have not a CRB yet.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.: Teaching Norwegian: It will have to be essential that the pupil as a stable internet connection and familiar to use skype. I will give the pupil tasks and questions and make the teaching fun and useful. I will be focusing on Norwegian culture and traditions. I use the book Beginners Norwegian with 2 audio CD by Laura Ziukaite-Hansen published by Hippocrene books.
Where and with whom did you train?: I studied 4 years in Oslo, Norway at Barratt Due Institute of Music which is one of the best schools for string instruments in Norway.
Do you have a personal message for students?: I am very ambitious with my students and expect them to practice every day. Playing the violin is demanding and it needs to be an every day activity for it to develop.
