Personal Message
As well as being a proven aid to learning in other spheres, music is a life enriching experience capable of surmounting all social and cultural barriers.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the 'cello and piano from Beginners to Advanced. Generally speaking, learning theory goes hand in hand with learning the instrument, but I also offer dedicated music theory lessons for those wanting to sit theory exams or as an aid to GCSE and A level revision.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I obtained my BMus (Hons) 1st class degree from Goldsmiths College, University of London.
What kind of experience do you have?
Since graduating I have taught privately on a one- to- one basis. Students have included children from four years old, teens and adults. Some have been complete beginners with no prior knowledge of music at all while others have had extensive musical experience.
How much do you charge?
My charges are £28 per hour, or £14.00 per half hour.
Where do you teach?
I teach from very pleasant surroundings in Chislehurst near Bromley on the South East London/North Kent border ( London Zone 4), not far from Eltham SE9. Lessons take place in a large, airy and light room in my home just a couple of minutes walk from Elmstead Woods train station. I am on a main bus route, but for those coming by car there is ample, private, off-road parking available.
When are you available?
I try to accommodate students at mutually convenient times throughout the week.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and abilities from beginners to advanced. Adult beginners and re-starters are very welcome.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Whilst acknowledging the benefits of the exam system, my lessons are not exam driven at the expense of good musicianship. However, students may (and do) prepare for ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall, or other exams if required and when ready .
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
No. My understanding is that Advanced CRB checks are not yet available for private teachers.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of The Incorporated Society of Musicians (I.S.M.)
Do you have a personal message for students?
My primary goal is to nurture a life-long love & appreciation of music in all people of all ages.
