Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach a wide variey of trumpets (piccolo, Bb, natural trumpet etc) to all people aged 8+
Piano to people from 8+ - N.B. I do not have my own piano and will require to use your piano in lessons.
Music Theory to anyone, particularly those who are aiming to pass their grade 5 theory!


Tell me about your qualifications.
Completed 3rd year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
3 A-levels (Music, Sociology, French)


What kind of experience do you have?
As a teacher I have taught privately for three years, coached the brass ensemble of the UBS Orchestra, and have taught for the LSO Connect Scheme in London schools, stewarding on National Children's Orchestra, Workshops with the Guildhall Connect Clinic.

As a trumpet player, I have been playing fro thriteen years. I am the principal trumpet in the Ernest Read Orchestra, and have experience playing with the Philharmonia Brass Quintet, the Orchestra Giovani Europei, and as a soloist with the City Chorus. I have ten years experience of playing dixieland jazz as well - if this is an area of interest I am more than happy to help!


How much do you charge?
A consultation lesson costs £5 less than the price stated on my profile as a normal lesson price.

Any lessons that are outside of zone 3 require extra payment to cover travel costs.


Where do you teach?
I usually teach at student's homes or places they wish to choose (i.e. offices etc).

Anywhere with easy access to Liverpool Street, Kings Cross, or London Bridge stations on mainline services, or on the central line.


When are you available?
As a music student I am often in orchestral projects so felixibility is key to lesson planning. I will do my best to accommodate your timetable and arrange the upcoming lesson each week.

Trumpet - beginner to grade 8
Cornet - beginner to grade 8
Piano - beginner to grade 5
Music Theory - beginner to grade 5


Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM and Trinity-Guildhall qualifications


Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Although I was cleared by the NCO CRB check, I do not have my own certificate.

Where and with whom did you train?
Guildhall School of Music and Drama 2008-2012.

My previous teachers include Paul Archibald and Thomas Rainer. I currently learn with Paul Beniston, Paul Cosh, Anne McAneney, and Stephen Keavy.
I have also played in masterclasses under Matthias Hofs, Alison Balsom, and Allen Vizzutti.

Enjoyment is the key to success

When we enjoy something, we always like to do it a lot. This is hopefully the case with trumpet practice. Because the music written for trumpet is great, there is no reason why we can't enjoy learning this instrument!
