Hi my name is Dave Storey and I am a professional musician and drum teacher with over 10 years experience performing and educating around London. Please contact me either on here, or on (concealed information)4
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach drum kit in a wide range of styles such as jazz, soul, funk, rock, pop and latin & afro-cuban.
Alongside this I can also offer lessons on technique (such as rudiments) music theory (scales, harmony and chords etc.) composition, repertoire and analysis.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have completed a MA in Jazz performance, Harmony & Theory at the Royal Academy of Music (Distinction). Whilst on the course I studied with some of the UK's top musicians and educators including UK drum giants Martin France, Jim Hart and Gene Calderazzo. Additionally, the course included advanced tuition in composition, rhythmic skills, music theory, arranging, analysis and repertoire from Pete Churchill, Barak Schmool and Nikki Iles.
I have also obtained a BA in Jazz Performance from Middlesex University (Distinction) prior to The Royal Academy of Music.
Grade 8 Drums: Distinction
- How much do you charge?
30 mins - £20
45 mins - £26
60 mins - £33
90 mins - £45
- Where do you teach?
I can teach from my house (from 10am-5pm) where I have 2 drum kits set up, a PA system and also have wealth of instruments set up and ready to use. This means that I can easily demonstrate a concept or idea alongside the drumkit you will be playing on. I can also use the PA system as a metronome/backing track or play examples of musical ideas that I am explaining to a student. This gives me and the student a wider range of activities to work on and makes lessons more dynamic and fun!
I am also able to travel to you for only a small extra travel cost.
- When are you available?
I am free to teach most days of the week including evenings and weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, beginner to intermediate to advanced.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I would be more than happy to guide students through the Trinity Guildhall or Rockschool grades 1-8 or any of the Music Theory exam boards.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
My approach to teaching is based on each individual student. Every student that comes to me is different and has varying musical interests and aims and this is the first thing that I am interested in knowing. I like to teach in a way that will allow students to keep learning between lessons encouraging them to ask new questions and discover new ideas for themselves through practice and exploration. Although I don't mind teaching from books and exercises (which can be very useful), the best teachers that taught me believed in passing on concepts and ideas that can be expanded and explored by the student whilst they are away from lessons. I want to get my students excited about what they are learning and to help them discover their own musical style!
