Personal Message
I believe that all students can enjoy mathematics and be successful with the right teacher. I know, from experience, that I can change students' confidence in their ability.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
GCSE Mathematics and KS3 Mathematics
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an Honours Degree in Mathematics and Psychology from Exeter University as well as a PGCE qualification from Goldsmiths College London.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been Head of Mathematics at a North London comprehensive and latterly was Head of GCSE Mathematics at Islington Sixth Form Centre. I was also head of pastoral care whilst at the college. I have taught across all ranges of ability and I was always graded 1 for my class teaching. The department was rated as outstanding by Ofsted. I retired this year.
How much do you charge?
I charge £30 for a one hour lesson. I would teach two students together for £40. I will travel to a reasonable distance but £5 extra for distances over 2 miles from my home.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home but am willing to travel to Muswell Hill, Finchley, Islington.
When are you available?
I am available at all times of the week except Saturday and Sunday evenings. I am retired so I am very flexible about times.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have had most of my teaching experience with students of secondary school age 11-19 but I have taught younger children in private lessons who needed to catch up or stretching whilst at junior schools. I have also prepared adults for professional exams.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Mainly GCSE but also AS level Mathematics.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I had a CRB whilst working but now that I have retired it has expired. However, I am able to provide references if required.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I have taught many GCSE resit students who thought that they were "rubbish at maths" and have managed to turn the majority around to start enjoying maths by feeling confident about their ability. I think that most students can achieve at least a grade C at GCSE with the right teacher.
