Personal Message
I love to share my passion for Music - it is the most rewarding, enjoyable and interesting endeavour to undertake!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I provide individual lessons in Piano and Violin from beginner to grade 8. I also teach Theory, Aural and A/S level Music at Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department, and offer private support for ABRSM Theory exams and A level study.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have three Grade 8 Certificates, Performer's Certificate (Violin), a Bachelor of Music degree with First Class Honours (including Piano Performance) and a Master of Music Degree in Composition.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have six years' teaching experience, with students ranging from age 5 to retired, including preparation for ABRSM and LCM practical exams, ABRSM theory exams and A/S level (AQA) Music.
How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per hour/£12.50 per half hour for lessons taken at my home. Visits to students' homes incur an extra £1.50 charge. Other lesson lengths can be arranged and will be charged pro rata and consultation lessons are available at half the usual rate.
Where do you teach?
I mainly teach at home, but can travel to students' homes depending on my schedule and the distance involved. The areas most easily accessible for me are Harborne, Edgbaston, Ladywood, Selly Oak, Bearwood, and the City Centre.
When are you available?
Most of my private teaching takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturday afternoons. During school holidays, days and times are usually more flexible.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach from age 5 to retired, beginner to grade 8, including many adult beginners.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Students are not required to take exams, but most people like to as it helps their sense of progress. I normally encourage students to take ABRSM graded exams.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes - it has just been updated.
Where and with whom did you train?
At Trinity College Junior Department I studied Piano with Patricia Holmes, Violin with Lynne Baker and Composition with Cecilia McDowall. At the University of Birmingham I studied Piano with Alex Boyd, Violin and Viola with Devorina Gamalova and Composition with Vic Hoyland.
