- Personal Message
- I'm an experienced teacher of Drama and Theatre Studies hoping to help you realise your full written and examination potential in this rich, diverse and challenging subject.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- Drama and Theatre Studies AS and A2
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a BA in Drama and English from Liverpool University, a PGCE with Distinction from Reading and an MA in Drama from Essex.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I am a very experienced teacher and have taught A Level Drama and Theatre for over 20 years. A large number of my students have gone on study at successfully at University and Drama Schools. I have been Head of Drama at Senacre Technology College, Maidstone, The Sylvia Young Theatre School, London and at most recently at Strode’s 6th Form College, Egham, Surrey. I have worked as an examiner at ‘A’ Level and as a moderator at GCSE. I have a very detailed knowledge of the exam requirements of Drama and Theatre syllabi.
I've radically raised standards in schools where students have been more academically challenged and stretched many B and A students into the recent A* territory. I've facilitated hundreds of A level practical group projects, all of which have achieved no less than band 2 of mark schemes and marked many hundreds of AS and A2 essays. I see coursework and essay writing as an extension of the practical learning experiences of being an audience and practising as a director/performer. I have often tutored ‘A’ level pupils on a one-to-one basis and see the concerns over the written paper an obstacle that is overcome with structured planning, timed practice and careful vocabulary choice.
I have undertaken a range of theatre-based training including workshops with: Antonio Fava in Commedia Dell’Arte, DV8, Stan Won’t Dance, Paines Plough, Michel Hecht, Frantic, Complicite and Out of Joint. I qualified in Stage Combat at Mountview and have attended physical theatre Summer Schools at Laban. I act and direct at the Questors Theatre, Ealing. - How much do you charge?
- £35.00 per hour. I can offer to tutor students in very small groups (min 2 and max 4) where the cost per student becomes between £20.00 and £30.00 per hour, depending on the group size. There’s a reduced rate if students want to book more than an hour at a time. Feel free to discuss different options with me. My charges for online tutoring are £35.00 to set and mark an A level essay. This includes contact via phone calls or email to give advice and a second re-mark. I've often thought how lucky I was to study Drama with Duncan and his team. The breadth of material covered surpasses the experiences most of my university peers had had at sixth form. Duncan's ability to mentor and coach his students to discover the nuances of text and to be 100% prepared for examination make him an exceptional teacher. But what was truly inspiring was the totality with which Duncan introduced us to the world of theatre - encouraging us to push ourselves to unlock our creative potential. - David Aula |

Duncan’s support showed deeply when I re-did my written Drama AS. Due to his endless marking of mock exam questions, with a specific target given to improve each essay, and endless support, I achieved 100% in this exam. Every lesson is exciting with Duncan, as we explore the text in so many different ways. His knowledge in physical theatre and the ‘actor’ has meant that I have grown rapidly in my understanding of performance and the role of audience. - Sarah Moheb-Ahanchi |

Duncan’s love for theatre and his eagerness for others to succeed helped me pass the course. It is very important his students have a good understanding of the text before he explores the production. In studying the background of the writer and the different characters within the text I had the ability then to imagine different ways to direct and set the scenes of the production. Duncan gave me a sense of fulfillment; his experience allows him to plan exciting lessons which have really helped me achieve. - Charlie Butler |

Mr Alldridge is one of the best and most inspiring teachers I have ever come across. He helped me for a short period of time during in preparation for A-Levels. Within that time he insisted with dramatically turning my results around. He did not just tutor me towards success and help me jump up four grades but also rekindled a love for the theatre! In summary, Mr Alldridge is a fantastic teacher and one I highly recommend. - Daniel Atuobi |

While so many teachers during A-Levels left me frustrated by sticking to a tight syllabus and restrictive curriculum, Duncan isn’t afraid of going that extra mile and letting students experiment creatively, so vital when developing both practical and critical skills. Duncan is calm, supportive and easy-going. He gives everyone the freedom to develop and grow, whilst still covering the essential ground needed for exams. Duncan has touched the lives of all that have had the pleasure of working with him. - Rhiannon Kelly |

Enthusiastic, supportive and highly creative, Duncan is a fantastic drama teacher. Whether practical or theoretical, lessons were engaging and highly stimulating. The essay feedback I received whilst studying Drama and Theatre studies was highly beneficial and Duncan always went the extra mile to ensure that all feedback given was understood. In addition to the tuition I received prior to A level exams, I was also given much advice and audition help in order to prepare my university auditions. - Katie Tyler |
