Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the violin and the viola.

Tell me about your qualifications.
In 2009 I graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester with a Bachelor of Music Degree. I have just completed my Masters Degree in viola performance with distinction at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.

What kind of experience do you have?
As a teacher I have experience of teaching both adults and children and have two students who have successfully auditioned for the National Children's Orchestra. I am happy to prepare students to take Associated Board graded exams if they would like to enter. As a performer I have performed throughout the UK, in Europe and China. I was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain from 2002 to 2005, being appointed Principal viola in 2005. I have performed several times at the BBC Proms. As a soloist and chamber musician I have performed at many venues including the Wigmore Hall, Cheltenham International Music Festival and Wells Cathedral.

How much do you charge?
I give individual lessons priced at £35 per hour and £25 for 30 minutes. I give new students the option of having either weekly of fortnightly lessons

Where do you teach?
I teach from home but am also willing to travel to students' homes to teach them within North, East and Central London.
There are excellent transport links to my teaching studio, Dalston Junction, Dalston Kingsland, Rectory Road and Stoke Newington railway stations are within a short walking distance. There are also many buses that stop on Stoke Newington Road which is 3 minutes walk away.

When are you available?
I am available to teach 7 days per week. I am flexible although I prefer to teach students at the same time each week. I usually teach adults at the weekend, as they often work full time during the week. I am happy teaching children in the week after school and in the school holidays if they would like.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach students of all ages from beginner to advanced.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes

Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Yes, I belong to the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

Where and with whom did you train?
From 1999 - 2005 I studied at Wells Cathedral School, Somerset which is a government funded specialist music school. During this time I studied with the renowned violist Philip Dukes. As a student at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama I have been learning with Professor Mark Knight who has trained some of this country's finest string players.

Do you have a personal message for students?
Learning the violin or viola is one of most rewarding things you can do. When played well music promotes happiness and optimism whether you are performing or listening to it. I will help you fulfil your potential as a violinist or viola player and teach you how to teach yourself what you need to know.
