ATCL(recital) diploma
- Personal Message
- Whether students wish to play for personal enjoyment or as a career I am very committed to my role as a piano teacher, delivering the lessons with enthusiasm, encouragement as well as patience, finding great joy in seeing them progress and helping them to achieve their full potential. To enable them to flourish as confident and independent learners, I teach theory of music alongside the practical aspects, as well as focusing on sight-reading skills. However, all lessons are adapted to suit the individual’s needs and interests.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach piano to pupils of any age or level of ability
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I graduated from Birmingham University in 2006 with a BMus (Hons) in Music and a Masters in performance (piano) from Trinity College of Music, London in 2008, gaining a merit overall and obtaining a 1st for my final recital. I have my ATCL (recital) diploma in solo piano, Grade 8 in singing, Grade 8 in flute and Grade 8 in the theory of music.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- In terms of my own playing ability: Since graduating from Trinity College of Music in 2008, I have been working as a pianist for ballet and musical theatre classes and accompanying dancers and musicians for exams, auditions, concerts and exams. I also enjoy working as a function pianist, playing in a variety of styles. I won the "Vale of Glamorgan Young Musician of the Year" competition in 2005 performing as a solo pianist and continue to attend "Chethams International Summer School and Festival for Pianists" yearly to further develop my own playing ability, technique and gain further inspiration from world class pianists and teachers. I have been awarded scholarships for both Chethams Summer School and and the "Birmingham International Piano Academy" which I attended in 2005 where I had the opportunity to play in public masterclasses for renowned concert pianists such as John Lill and Martin Roscoe.
As a teacher: I have taught piano privately for the past 3 years. Some I have taught as complete beginners and others have come to me having learnt with other teacher(s) previously. During this time I have entered pupils for both theory and practical ABRSM exams. I also have experience of teaching pupils as young as 3 through games, singing, story-telling and crafts. - How much do you charge?
- The basic rate I charge is £30 for one hour's lesson. The length of lesson will depend on the pupil's age and ability. Complete beginners and/or young children are often more suited to weekly half hour lessons in which case I would only charge £15 a lesson.
- Where do you teach?
- I currently teach at pupils' home in the Greenwich/Blackheath and Turnham Green/Chiswick (W4/W6) areas so am most likely to take on new pupils living in those areas or around SE23 where I live.
- When are you available?
- I'm not overly flexible in what days and times I can teach but thats something that can be discussed over the phone or via email should you register interest in employing me as a piano teacher.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach piano to pupils of any age or level of ability
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have one through a performing arts college I play for.

Memorising Music
Memorisation: Cannot or Will Not? Any pianist today wishing to make a career out of solo performing will be expected to play their repertoire from memory for both historical and practical reasons. Putting historical reasons aside, the three main practical reasons are that firstly you do not have to share the platform with a page-turner,...
