About Katherine
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching privately for seven years, to all ages from early years to adults. I have also worked for Birmingham Music Service and I currently teach Flute in various schools around London and for Kingston Music Service and ECaM .
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I am a Flautist and music teacher based in Lewisham. As well as performing I am passionate about music education and enjoy passing on my enthusiasm for music to my students.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Flute, Piccolo, beginner Piano, Fife, Recorder, Music Theory, and Early Years Music.
I am happy to tutor for exams or just general enjoyment and interest. I specialise in Classical music mainly but I have experience of Folk and contemporary music as well.
As well as instrumental lessons I have a lot of experience leading music workshops to small and large groups of children including full classes. I also work in Nurseries delivering curriculum workshops to full classes.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have just finished a Masters degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with a distinction.
I graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2010 with a First Class Bmus (Hons ) degree specialising in the Flute.
- How much do you charge?
£30 per hour for all instrumental/theory teaching and early years music.
I am also happy to teach small groups and I offer small group classes to children ages 3-6 helping to introduce music to children as young as possible. Please contact me if you have some friends who you would like to learn with.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in lewisham but I am happy to travel to you if that is easier. An added travel cost will apply depending on where I am travelling to.
- When are you available?
I am free to teach most evenings and weekends (with the exception of Saturday mornings during the term).
I am also available to teach during the school holidays or offer any extra tuition leading up to an exams.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and all levels on the Flute and Piccolo.
I teach beginner Recorder, Fife and Piano to all ages including 3-5 years.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
All of my current and past students have done ABRSM exams however I am happy to tutor for Trinity Guildhall exams too or teach just for fun.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am happy to offer any advice over email if needed.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I enjoy teaching and always want the very best for my students whether it is working for an exam, a performance or just for fun. I think encouragement and enjoyment are key factors of teaching and I am keen to let my students lead some of their lessons so that they can improve on the things they want to as well the more technical areas of music. I think performing is an important part of music making and always encourage my students to take up any performing opportunities.
