About Jessica
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have plenty of educational experience as both a tutor and teacher. During the past academic year I have tutored the following subjects (exam boards included where appropriate):
- beginner's Italian for adults
-English Language and Literature A-level (Edexcel)
- French AS-level (AQA)
-Italian GCSE (AQA)
Spanish GCSE (AQA/Edexcel)
-English Literature IGCSE (Edexcel)

I am also currently employed by a Croydon secondary school as an internal English tutor and UCAS adviser for Year 13 students, with particular emphasis on the writing of personal statements. I have, in the past, been employed as a Teaching Assistant, providing in-class support for students in Years 7-11 with a range of learning difficulties. I provided support in all areas of the curriculum, but most particularly in Modern Languages, English and Maths lessons.

- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently tutor Italian to adult beginners and to GCSE level. I am also tutor to a student doing AS-level French with a view to studying at Cambridge, and for students taking exams in English Literature and Spanish GCSEs this summer. In addition, I am an internal tutor in English in a South London secondary school for pupils in years 7-10.

I am keen to get others loving languages as much as I do. Having had experience as a tutor, a classroom teacher and a teaching assistant, I strongly believe in tailoring teaching methods to the needs of the individual.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach both French and Italian to degree level and Spanish to A-level. I also tutor English (Language and/or Literature) to A-level, as well as offering specialised Literacy support, general study skills and help with essay writing. With regards to university entrance, I act as a UCAS adviser for a South London secondary school and can therefore provide in-depth specialised support, particularly with the writing of personal statements. I also offer coaching for entry into Oxbridge for prospective Arts and Humanities students and pre-sessional summer tuition for those who have been offered a place and are going up to study in Modern Languages.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an MA in Translation Studies from Cardiff University and a BA in French and Italian from Oxford University. I was enrolled on a PGCE for Secondary French and Spanish at King's College London for the majority of the last academic year and thus have extensive knowledge of the theory and practice of pedagogic methodologies in MFL.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £30/hour for 1-1 lessons. 2-1 lessons will be charged at £45/hour.
- Where do you teach?
I offer tuition in the student's own home. I live near Bromley, Kent and can travel to Chislehurst, Beckenham, Orpington and Croydon very easily. I am happy to travel to most places in South-East and Central London and some locations in South-West London.
- When are you available?
I am available during the day Monday-Friday, weekday evenings and potentially on weekends (at tutor's discretion).
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach from age 11 upwards and all levels from beginner to advanced.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for GCSE, IGCSE and A-level examinations and have particular experience with preparing students for exams with the the AQA and Edexcel boards. I also coach students for university entry, including Oxbridge, and also offer pre-sessional summer tuition for those taking up places to study Modern Languages.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Learning can be hard work, however it can also be a huge amount of fun. My aim is to get you enjoying learning so you progress quickly, feel more confident and ultimately feel proud of yourself and what you can achieve.
