- I am an enthusiastic, fun and outgoing tutor who enjoys building a working relationship with all my students and helping them reach their full potential.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach ESOL, all levels and abilities, from basic to advanced and all ages, from 5- adult. I also offer tuition for pupils undertaking 11+ Exams.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages through Cambridge University, which I completed at the Liverpool International Language Academy. I received a PASS A grade and excellent feedback, later being employed by the company.
I also have a degree in Community Drama, meaning I have three years teaching experience and an ability to work flexibly around my students, adapting material to suit their needs. I also have exceptional GCSE grades and an AS level qualification in English Language and Literature- Grade A. - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have experience of teaching ESOL classes to adults within the private sector and am currently employed by Liverpool International Language Academy and Sefton City Council, offering one to one tuition to children who can't access the curriculum due to their lack of English Language skills. This involves teaching children and young people from the age of 5-18 years.
I have run drama workshops at a summer camp for two years with ISIS Education and Travel to students who speak English as a foreign Language. The classes were aimed at increasing confidence, all round fluency and speaking and listening skills, and culminated in a performance to the rest of the students.
I have also taught various drama workshops for three years as part of my course and so have wide experience of planning, developing and teaching children and adults. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £20.00 an hour, £35.00 for two hours. I also offer the chance for all my students to meet up once a month at a specific venue, so they can meet each other, practice their English in an authentic setting and experience what Liverpool has to offer. They would need to provide their own transport, but I would attend all of these informal social events to help them with their English, free of charge.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach in my own home or am available to travel to the students home, depending on the distance. I also offer students the chance to visit authentic settings e.g. a coffee shop/ train station/ clothes shop so they can practice their English.
- When are you available?
- I am available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night from 3.30pm and Wednesday nights between 3.30pm and 5.30pm, depending on the venue. This is to fit around my other Teaching job. I am available at weekends on request.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all levels and ages from 5- adult, basic to advanced, including 11+ exams.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- I am employed by the Liverpool International Language Academy, Sefton City Council and Liverpool City Council.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- Liverpool International Language Academy
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I am currently working with two children preparing them for their 11+ exams. I am focusing on reading comprehension and literary skills and demonstrating how they can use contextual clues to gain understanding. I am also teaching them exam techniques.
I have previously worked with a female adult who wanted to improve her fluency and clarity in English language, so we focused on phonetics and how to create certain sounds in English, particularly those which didn't exist in her country.
In my job with Sefton City Council I am delivering all kinds of lessons, from phonetics, conversational English and vocabulary based work for complete beginners, to complex grammar and exam techniques for GCSE and A level students.

"Learning" English
I find that a learner who is enjoying learning will always learn faster, will retain more information and have a more memorable learning experience, than a student who merely attends the class. Students should be engaged at all times in the lesson, being offered as much authentic material as possible from the tutor. The tutor must adapt to the...
