Currently studying for a BMUS undergraduate degree in Cello at the Royal College of Music - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have tutored for ABRSM theory exams, one-to-one cello teaching, youth orchestra sectional student coach (South London Youth Orchestra and Marryat Players) and I have led workshops in the Kensington local schools.
- How much do you charge?
- £30 for an hour
£22.50 for 45 minutes
£15 for half an hour
ALL CONSULTATION LESSONS ARE FREE OF CHARGE.
For young children it is advisable to have a shorter lesson so that concentration is maintained!
I have a travelcard for zones 1-2 in London, but would ask for expenses to be covered for tuition in zone 3. - Where do you teach?
- I would prefer to teach at students' homes as I live in shared accommodation. I am based in West London and can easily teach those who live in Hammersmith, Turnham Green, Ravenscourt Park, (West and South) Kensington, Earl's Court, Notting Hill and Westbourne Park.
Although I am based in West London, I am very happy to travel, so please contact me if in doubt. - When are you available?
- I am available most times throughout the week. However, because I am studying my availability is subject to change (due to orchestral placements at RCM etc). Lesson times would mostly be regular but may need to be re-arranged occasionally to accommodate for such changes! Tuition would mainly take place termly (Sept-Dec; Jan-Apr; May-July) with lessons available in the holidays on request.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and all levels. If you are a mature student don't be intimidated!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I can prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall graded examinations. With younger students I like to work towards grade exams as goal oriented learning is often the most rewarding for the student and encourages focus. However, each students' development is different and I discuss how they would like to learn.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- No but I have reliable references on request.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Royal College of Music, London.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I began the cello at the age of 5 and studied with Gerald Howard and later Robert Max (teacher at JRAM, musical director of Oxford Symphony Orchestra and Pro Corda 1998-2000, Principal Cellist of London Chamber Orchestra.)
I am entering my third year of undergraduate study (Sept 2011) with Melissa Phelps (http://www.cellist.nl/database/showcellist.asp?id=248)
As a soloist I have perfomed in masterclasses for Alexander Chaushian, Jan Repko, Guy Johnston and Johannes Goritzki. I am also a keen chamber musician; my quartet has performed in masterclasses for the Endellion, Chilingirian, Vanbrugh and Sacconi quartets, Simon Rowland-Jones and David Dolan and recently performed as part of the Chilingirian Mozart Festival.

Fugue XIV in F sharp minor
The subject of a fugue is of primary importance, not only because the entire structure of the work stems from the first entry, but also because the subject contains many details of expression and technique that define the fugue as a whole. The beauty of fugue XIV is partly due to the balance of emotive and intellectual aspects of Bach’s...
