About George
- What kind of experience do you have?
I am a London-based freelance tuba player. I have performed professionally with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (as part of a trial for the job), the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra and the English National Ballet.
I have a varied experience of teaching, including private one-to-one beginner tuition, and education projects in connection with the London Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra community and outreach programmes. At the Guildhall School we were lectured in teaching practice by experienced professionals.
I have attended a Child Protection Awareness Training Workshop given by the Musicians' Union.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have a 2016 Enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) Certificate, and have also attended a Musicians' Union workshop on Child Protection Awareness.

All levels of brass tuition offered by an experienced professional performer with a keen interest in education and learning. Friendly and open-minded lessons - all aspirations are welcomed; beginner, amateur and aspiring professional.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am a professional tuba player, however I teach the below from beginner to advanced:
Trumpet/Cornet,
Tenor Horn,
Euphonium/Baritone,
Trombone,
Tuba.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied for 5 years at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, I hold a BMus undergraduate degree with first class honours, and am soon to graduate from my Masters studies.
I won the Guildhall's annual brass competition in 2013 and received a Concert Recital Diploma at the end of my studies due to outstanding achievement in my final recital.
- How much do you charge?
£30 per hour pro rata.
To travel outside of Zones 1-4 a modest supplement can be arranged on an individual basis.
- Where do you teach?
I am setting up my own private teaching practice at my home in Bellingham, South East London which has ample teaching facilities.
I can also travel to students' homes in and around London. As stated above, outside of Zones 1-4 a modest supplement to the fee can be arranged on an individual basis.
- When are you available?
As a freelance musician I have a flexible schedule- all times of day are possible. Regular lesson slots can be arranged to the best of my ability. It is best to get in touch and ask!
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages (I don't recommend children learning a brass instrument until they have adult front teeth). I can teach tuba to advanced level. Other brass instruments I would encourage to go to a specialist around "grade 6" standard. If you're looking for Music Theory Tuition I can teach to advanced level as well.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
It is entirely up to the individual - I will not push for students to take grade exams, however I am very accustomed to the grade system if they wish to go down this route.
