Which subject(s) do you teach?
I offer tuition in Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA and BA Hons (Classics, first class) from the University of Cape Town, an MA (Classics, distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and a Doctorate (Classics) from the University of South Africa. I did post-doctoral work at the Universities of Bonn and Vienna, and have been the recipient of an Onassis Fellowship for research in Athens and Thessaloniki. In addition to these formal qualifications, I have published very extensively on a range of Classical authors, mainly on Greco-Roman historiography (Thucydides, Josephus, Plutarch, Historia Augusta), political rhetoric (Demosthenes), the Augustan poets (Horace, Propertius, Ovid) and Seneca tragicus. I am currently working on factional rhetoric in Thucydides.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught at universities for 32 years (University of South Africa, Royal Holloway London), and in addition have two years experience in Independent Schools. I have taught pupils and students of all ages (7 to 70) at all levels, complete beginners to postgraduate.
How much do you charge?
Up to Common Entrance I charge £35 per hour, above that £40 per hour (plus travel, if necessary). For groups of more than 2 learners, a 10% discount will apply. All tutoring will be shaped around your precise needs and requirements.
Where do you teach?
I can teach from my flat in NW3, or at the learner's home, whichever is more convenient.
When are you available?
At present I am available at most times, including evenings.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach at all levels, from Common Entrance to graduate, and learners of any age are welcome. I have worked with pupils and students from 7 to 70, and enjoyed them all.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for Common Entrance, GCSE, A Levels, and assist undergraduate University students.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have an up-to-date enhanced CRB.
