About Kerry
- What kind of experience do you have?
Initially graduated as a classroom music teacher in 1988. Have taught privately in between career breaks bringing up a family.
Also experience with choirs and smaller musical groups.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Not currently. Most parents choose to stay during lessons, and I encourage this as I like parents to be involved. The subject of DBS so far has not come up, if it did then I would organise a check to be made through the Musicians Union of which I am a member.
- Where and with whom did you train?
B.Ed (Hons) at Newton Park (now Bath Spa University).
Piano / theory with Emily Haley-Jarvis and Quintin Haley-Jarvis
Harp with Emma Yates-Butler
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Musician's Union.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Currently I teach students from 6 years of age through to adults, from complete beginners to those preparing to take grade examinations.

I have taught piano & theory in between bringing up a family for many years (harp has been a more recent addition). I welcome all ages and abilities, and believe music has so much to offer in enriching our lives.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Piano, harp, flute and music theory. Music theory can be offered separately, but will always be included as an integral part of lessons. Lessons are tailored very much to the individual and may include improvisation, some duet sessions as well as developing solid technique, notation interpretive skills and an individual sense of style.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
B.Ed (Hons) music
Grade 8 Piano
Grade 8 Harp
Grade 8 Theory
Grade 6 Flute
- How much do you charge?
Currently £27 per hour for all subjects. Lesson lengths can be 30 ,45 or an hour long either weekly or fortnightly to suit the student. 20 minute lessons are available for very young students.
- Where do you teach?
I largely teach from home (York), although I can make home visits if teaching hours and the locality of the student allow.
- When are you available?
By arrangement. After school and evenings are fine. I can be available earlier in the day to adult learners if this is a more suitable time.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Music grades and certificates with ABRSM and Trinity. The media files loaded to my profile are all current syllabus examples recorded by myself.
