Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
Cello and chamber music.

Tell me about your qualifications.
As a professional performer and teacher, I have much to offer students. Highlights with the Fitzwilliam String Quartet include concerts at Kings Place and Conway Hall in London, broadcasts on BBC Radio, cruises of the Aegean Sea, CD recordings and numerous tours throughout the UK and abroad.
Before joining the FSQ, I studied cello at Memorial University of Newfoundland, McGill University in Montreal, the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland and finally Stony Brook University in New York where I completed a Doctorate of Music. My main cello teachers were Antonio Lysy and Colin Carr.
Since moving to London, I have worked as a freelance cellist in a number of orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
I have given recitals in North America, Britain and Europe. Earlier this year I performed Shostakovich's Concerto No. 2 with the Academy of St. Olave's in York.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching cellists of all ages and levels since 2003. I also give masterclasses and workshops, most recently at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and at Benslow Music, Hitchin.

How much do you charge?
My rate is £40 per hour. I am also available for 45 and 30-minute lessons.

Where do you teach?
I mainly teach at my home in Islington but I am willing to travel to your home in North London.

When are you available?
My schedule is very flexible. I teach weekdays and weekends.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and levels welcome.

Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Any.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
No.

Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Where and with whom did you train?
I most recently trained with Colin Carr at Stony Brook University in New York. Before this I studied cello at McGill University in Canada with Antonio Lysy.

Tell me about some of your current students.
Most of my students are adults ranging from beginner to grade 8.
