- Personal Message
- I tutor because it allows me the opportunity to enliven learning every day. Helping students make sense of a subject is of course the primary aim; helping them to enjoy it is a brilliant added bonus!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- English and Maths from 8 years upwards. I also tutor Economics at A level standard and help eager drama students in preparing for their Lamda exams.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- B.A. English, Cambridge University (2.1);
A-Levels: English Literature (A), History (A), Economics(A).
Vocational:
I have just graduated with a B.A(Hons) in Professional Acting from LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been a tutor for 3 years whilst studying, tutoring a wide range of abilities including students with dyslexia. Students of mine have gone on to gain A grades at A Level and are starting at Oxford and Cambridge this autumn. I have also helped younger students gain a place at their target schools post 11+.

- KS1, 2, 3, Common Entrance exams, GCSE, A level.

- Yes.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Because every student responds differently to tutoring I tailor my style to fit each individual. My students and I overcome areas of real difficulty most effectively when they trust me. I hope to gain a tutee's confidence so that learning can become fun and collaborative, rather than a trial which is totally focused on testing.

The Imaginative Power of McEwan and Murdoch
‘It wasn’t only wickedness and scheming that made people unhappy, it was confusion and misunderstanding; above all, it was the failure to grasp the simple truth that other people are as real as you. And only in a story could you enter these different minds and show how they had an equal value. That was the only moral a story need have.’...

Helen is an outstanding tutor! We contracted Helen to intensely tutor our daughter in preparation for her 11+ exams. Each morning Helen brought her natural enthusiasm to the classes. Our daughter found the classes fun and stimulating and over a three hour period that took some skill! We saw a marked improvement in our daughter's score over a short period of time. Our daughter achieved four offers from her target Schools and much of this achievement is down to Helen's dedication and enthusiasm. - Paul Benton |
