Personal Message
I offer gentle encouragement and clear explanations, boosting confidence and developing deep understanding. Sessions are taylored to students individual needs. My sparkly personality motivates and inspires.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I tutor Mathematics at secondary school level and statistics to degree level.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I achieved A grades at O-level, A-level Maths and further Maths. I have an upper second class Maths degree from Oxford University, and an MSc with distinction in Medical Statistics from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I qualified as a member of the Institute for Learning, based on my teaching experience, teacher training undertaken, and recommendation from peers. I am a chartered Statistician, based on my MSc plus many years practical experience using statistics in medical research. This work involved collaborating with other professionals and the constant need to explain statistics to non-specialists, and therefore a lot of informal one to one teaching, as well as formal lecturing and tutoring. See curriculum vitae (attached).
What kind of experience do you have?
I have experience in one to one tuition, in many different settings, including tutoring Maths, Statistics and study design and research critique. I have teaching experience in Statistics at University level (lecturing, practical sessions, preparing material). I taught at school level in Ghana, Africa, at a level between GCSE and A-level. See teaching reference (attached) and comments from students and colleagues on my teaching and tutoring skills (attached).
How much do you charge?
There is a charge of £25 per hour for tuition in my own home at Key stage 3 and GCSE level, and of £30 per hour at A-level in my own home. I charge travelling costs in addition, plus a further £1 per 20 mins of travelling time, for me to travel to you. I charge £5 extra for each additional pupil, if two or more pupils are taught together. For Statistics tuition at university level, I charge £45 per hour in my own home, plus travelling costs as at school level.
Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Walthamstow, just 7 mins walk from Blackhorse Road tube station, Victoria line and Gospel Oak- Barking branch of North London overground line (15 mins walk from St James Street station on the Liverpool Street to Chingford line). I also visit pupils in their own homes, in the surrounding areas, including anywhere in North London on the Victoria line, or on the Gospel-Oak - Barking line. I teach in Tottenham, Seven Sisters, Finsbury Park, Manor House, Turnpike Lane, Wood Green, Arsenal, Holloway, Islington, Kings Cross, Leyton, Leytonstone, Wanstead, Harringay, Crouch End, Hampstead.
When are you available?
I am available for after school sessions Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. I am available on most Saturdays. I also have daytime availability.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach children of secondary school age, and any adults as required. Maths I teach to key stage 3, GSCE and A-level, and I teach Statistics to degree level.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Chartered Statistician of the Royal Statistical Society
Where and with whom did you train?
I have undertaken teacher training at several different organisations (St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Medical School, St George's Hospital Medical School, and at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine).
Do you have a personal message for students?
Maths can be challenging and difficult, but it also can be fun. Receiving one to one focused attention can really help to motivate and to inspire. I can help to tease out any difficulties in understanding, and unpick these and rebuild on more solid foundations. My attention as a tutor can help to build confidence, by my belief in your abilities, and by my pointing out what you are doing well. I set high standards to aspire to, to challenge you to do your best. I aim to bring a depth of understanding and also some playfulness into the sessions.
