Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Singing including Diction, Piano and Recorders.

Tell me about your qualifications.
ARCM from the Royal College of Music, Opera School at the Royal College of Music.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have sung with the Israeli National Opera, Extra Chorus ENO and Covent Garden. Television/film work, Wigmore Hall Recital, concerts etc.

How much do you charge?
I charge from £20 for half an hour, and from £35 an hour. My term is 10 lessons paid in advance. I do charge for a consultation lesson, then we take it from there. I also give an MU contract for private lessons. I teach from home and do not usually travel.

Where do you teach?
I teach at home in London, N20. The nearest tube is Totteridge/Whetstone on the Northern line. It is a 10 minute walk from the station, or you could take a bus for 2 stops. There is free parking outside the house.

When are you available?
I teach during school holidays, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Mondays after 4pm, Tuesdays after 4pm, Friday after 4pm, Saturday morning till 2pm and Sunday till 1pm. I am flexible with times as long as I get 48 hours notice. Any lessons missed without notice are forfeited.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages, up to Grade 5 piano, all Grades in Singing, Grade 4 Recorder, audition songs and Music Theatre exams.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes. I also have a Child Chaperone License.

Musicians Union, Equity, Society of Recorder Players.

Where and with whom did you train?
Leeds College of Music with Owen Wynne, Royal College of Music with Hervey Alan and Marian Studholme. Also studied in Israel with an opera singer from the Budapest Opera. Actors Centre in London - various teachers including Mary Hammond.

Tell me about some of your current students.
I teach schoolchildren and adults. Singers auditioning for West End shows, children from Stage Schools and professional actors.

Do you have a personal message for students?
I accept only people happy to practise on a regular basis. Young children need encouragement from parents who are also willing to occasionally sit in on lessons and allot a time at home for practise under some supervision. Actors who need to sing for shows etc. must realize that a last minute quick fix is not possible, though they may only have been given a piece of music a week before the audition!

Music Lessons

As with any subject, practice is of the essence. Before taking up any aspect of music, it must be done on the understanding that you have to have the time to devote to it. So many people do not take this into account and cannot understand why they don't progress or at least very slowly. ...
