I'm a professional guitarist and teacher. I've been playing for 12 years and gained a BA in Music in 2012. Get in touch for enjoyable, thoughtful and productive lessons!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach acoustic guitar, in all shapes and forms! Anything from simple accompaniment to advanced fingerstyle arrangements and extremely tricky harmonics. Have a look at my youtube page for an idea of the techniques I can teach.
I also teach lap slide, banjo and ukulele for beginners, intermediates and guitar players who want to transfer their skills.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA in Music.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per for a 45 minute lesson, from my narrowboat on the Regent's Canal; or I teach at your house or another location for £30 per lesson. This is what I recommend for weekly lessons, fortnightly lessons are usually 1 hour long and I charge £30 on the boat / £35 elsewhere.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from my narrowboat on the Regent's Canal, and sometimes on the Grand Union. I move the boat a few miles every 2 weeks, between Kensal (W10) and Limehouse (E14), stopping in like Westbourne Park (W9) Little Venice (W2), Paddington Basin (W2), Camden Town (NW1), St Pancras (N1C), Caledonian Road (N1), Angel (N1), Haggerston (E8), Victoria Park (E2) and Mile End (E3).
The boat is comfortable, clean and peaceful and very warm in the winter. Each time I move the boat, I email all of my students with the exact location and directions from the nearest public transport links (I'm always less than 5 minutes' walk from the nearest train station).
I can also teach at your house or another location (recommended for under-18s).
- When are you available?
My availability varies, so get in touch and we'll see what works for us both.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach beginners up to experienced players, of all ages.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I have prepared one student for this GCSE performance for which he received an A*. I am also able to work with students towards their AS/A2 performance exams.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
As I will not be travelling, I charge the home-fee of £25 per lesson. Again, this will last 45 minutes. I have an HD webcam built into my laptop, and I use an external professional stereo microphone, so you will benefit from optimal sound and video.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
If you are interested in playing the acoustic guitar, then I'll be able to help you. Whether you want to develop a hobby, or you're a professional singer who wants to be able to perform solo without a backing track, I'll provide you with catered, thoughtful and thoroughly enjoyable lessons. When appropriate, I will provide you with recordings and transcriptions (notation and tab).

Imran has proven without doubt that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. I have learnt more in the past 2 years under Imran's tutelage that I did under the previous 35. It's fun too.
Imran has been teaching my son acoustic guitar for the last 3 years, and in that period he has made really fast progress from being a beginner to playing advanced picking arrangements confidently... He follows up the lessons with emails and written scores ... He has never found the lessons a chore ... he really enjoys the lessons and I couldn't recommend Imran highly enough as a teacher.
I've been having lessons for several months now. Imran has always been very flexible with classes (which I badly needed!). He has mostly been teaching me via songs that I choose, and elaborating on techniques within them. I have found this to be a very effective way of learning and far more accessible than learning classical techniques on their own. 100 % recommended. You also need to hear him play....The closest thing I have ever seen to Tommy Emmanuel that wasn't Tommy Emmanuel
I've been taking weekly lessons for about 10 months now and my knowledge of guitar theory and playing has improved enormously in that time. Imran has an extremely friendly nature and an abundance of patience. Along with the fundamentals of guitar playing, he teaches a variety of music genres from various artist. He's a great teacher with great techniques to develop your skills & I'd highly recommend him to anybody.
I've been getting evening lessons with Imran for over 6 months now and over that time have improved no end. Imran is obviously very accomplished on the guitar and knowledgeable on music theory.
I would thoroughly recommend him as a friendly, flexible, helpful and able teacher. You'll be doing your guitar abilities a massive favour by booking some lessons.View more recommendations
