- Personal Message
- I am a London-based violinist and violin teacher - my goal is always to bring out the best in every student, and to share the wonderful gift that is playing the violin!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach classical violin and music theory.
My other specialist subject is maths (grade A at A level and an ongoing passion!) - Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a BA(Hons) in Music from The University of Nottingham where I specialised in violin performance. I also took postgraduate studies at Trinity College of Music in London for a year.
I also have a Diploma in violin performance from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. (DipABRSM - Distinction) - What kind of experience do you have?
- I teach privately and have experience teaching young children to adults.
I also freelance as a violinist. My performance experience although mainly classical, spans orchestral to session, musical theatre, folk and jazz. - How much do you charge?
- My violin lesson rates are £28 for an hour
£23 for 45 minutes
£18 for half an hour
My maths tutoring rates are £25 per hour, except key stage 1 (£20) - Where do you teach?
- I can come to you!
- When are you available?
- I am usually very flexible, though timetables can change as I freelance.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- Any age and any level!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- ABRSM grades. Though I believe that exams are most beneficial when they are not done back to back! it is very important to expand one's musical horizons beyond the requirements of the exam boards. It is, however, marvellous to have something tangible to aim for so prepare students for the ABRSM exams if that is right for the individual student.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- As I do not teach on behalf of a company, I do not currently hold a CRB certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- The Royal College of Music jr dept - Gina McCormack
The University of Nottingham - Janet Hall
Trinity College of Music - Richard Ireland - Do you have a personal message for students?
- I am passionate about sharing my love and understanding of the violin. I firmly believe in a strong technical grounding for all students, and feel that the early years are hugely important in forming a well rounded musical understanding and grip of the instrument. I also believe it is crucial to make the violin accessible to all students, and therefore to tailor the lessons specifically to each. My goal is always to bring out the best in every student, and to share the wonderful gift that is playing the violin!

The Gift of Improvisation
Miles Davis' words of advice were "Don't play what's there, play what's not there". Improvisation can be a scary prospect to those unfamiliar with it - filling empty space with notes that don't yet exist can be potentially daunting of course. I encourage pupils to look at it a different way: The spontaneously created soundscape that comes...
