Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
My main subject is English Literature, which I teach to an extremely high standard from Key Stage 3 to undergraduate level. I am particularly thorough and successful with regard to essay writing and revision techniques.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a 2.1 BA in English from King's College London. In terms of A-levels, I have an A in English Literature, and two Bs in History and Sociology. I also have an AS-level in Art (grade B). I hold nine GCSEs: 3 at A* grade (English Literature, English Language and History) and the rest at grade A (including Maths and Double Science). I am currently studying for a Masters in Comparative Literature at UCL.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have tutored university, GCSE and A-level students for the past three years in a professional capacity and with great success. I have also had some informal tutoring experience prior to that.
How much do you charge?
Generally, I charge £25 per hour. However, if the student travels to me, I am happy to charge £25 for an hour and a half basic lesson.
Where do you teach?
I can teach both at my own home and travel to the home of the student. Locations close to me include: Old Street, Shoreditch, Haggerston, Dalston, Hackney, Homerton, Stoke Newington and Angel.
When are you available?
My hours are extremely flexible.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I prefer to teach A-level students, but I also enjoy teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE and undergraduate students.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I do not have a certificate at present, but it would be fairly easy for me to get one.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently tutor one GCSE pupil in English Literature and general essay-writing and comprehensive skills; a third year university English student; and a Masters student in 1830 - present English Literature. I also do freelance editorial and proof-reading work.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I am passionate about my subjects and I like to be able to make lessons fun. I am very focused on the individual, so all my teaching will be based on the needs, strengths and requirements of the pupil. I think education should be enjoyable.
Essay Writing
I often find that whilst the learning process itself is fun, many students feel intimidated by the prospect of having to structure their thoughts and arguments in the traditional essay form. Very often, extremely bright students are overwhelmed by having to conform to this written format. This...
