- Personal Message
- As a working actress I have been teaching and tutoring constantly for the last few years alongside acting work and training. I adore teaching and find one on one tuition particularly stimulating. The value of such intensive tuition comes from the ability to tailor the teaching style and work to each individual student; my aim is always to highlight to a pupil what it is about their subject that is interesting and exciting. I find every subject I teach fascinating, be it history, drama or Religious Studies, and my hope is always to instill this enthusiasm in my students.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach Drama, History, Ancient History, RS, English.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Professional Acting FdA, 2 year course
Oxford University, B.A. Hons. 1st Class, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching for several years, and have taught a range of ages and subjects. I started teaching Drama to sixth form students at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School's weekend youth group, which I adored. Since moving to London and taking on acting work I have been tutoring constantly alongside my acting, with students aged between 11 and 18. I have experience teaching Drama School audition technique - both of the pupils I have tutored successfully gained places - as well as academic Drama. I have taught A-Level History to several students, general history to adults, Maths to younger children and English to all ages. I also have a lot of experience tutoring entry exams and am happy to tackle general history examinations at any level, whether they be Oxbridge exams or schools exams.
- How much do you charge?
- Between £30 and £35 an hour depending on age, level and travel.
- Where do you teach?
- Normally at the student's home, anywhere in central, west or south London.
- When are you available?
- I'm an actor so I am very flexible; I am currently on tour but I will be in London and available from early May. I am happy to work evenings and weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- 8+
The majority of my students are in sixth form, but I currently also have one student over 40 and one under 10! - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- A Level, As Level, GCSE, drama school auditions, entry exams.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I have experience of teaching over skype and am happy to do so.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I trained as an actress at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, one of the most prestigious drama schools in the world, and have been lucky enough to attend some additional training at the RSC. I took my undergraduate degree at Oxford University, gaining a First Class B.A. Hons in Ancient History and Classical Archaeology.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- One of my students recently discovered that was successful in gaining a place at Westminster School for sixth form - I was helping her with entrance exams and interviews, and she was over the moon as it's very hard to get in! So Congratulations to Olivia. I have tutees who are excelling and tutees who are struggling, and I adapt my style depending on their needs. In every case so far I can see a marked improvement within about a month. I also have one tutee who works in finance but simply wants to learn more about History - we have a wonderful time churning through the "Highlights" of British Culture.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I try to be very adaptable and open with new tutees, so if you are honest about what you need I will be honest about how I can help!

Essay: History is all about perspective
Opposing the Emperor: A senatorial (Pre)occupation? What does it mean to be ‘a good senator’ under the republic? From whose perspective? Defining someone as “good” in any capacity invariably involves the question of perspective. The question could easily be construed as several different questions: What makes a good senator from the...
