Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Guitar (electric and acoustic), Bass and Piano. I teach most styles; rock, pop, folk, jazz, fingerstyle, slide. The piano I teach is not so much about the grades (although I can teach them up to grade 4 or 5), but more about rock and pop piano; learning songs, chord theory, that kind of thing. I also carry out repair and maintenance to guitars and basses.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have Grades 1-5 in piano of The Associated Board cerificates in theory and practical.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have more than 20 years experience as a gigging and recording guitarist and more than 12 years experience as a tutor. I recently worked with the contemporary folk artist Iona Leigh.
How much do you charge?
My rates are £20 per hour, £10 per half hour or £15 for a 45 minute lesson.
Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in the area of Oxford called Jericho. Oxford station is a short walk away.
When are you available?
I teach Monday to Friday including school holidays until 8pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
The yougest age I teach is 14 years old. There is no upper limit.
Do you have a CRB disclosure certificate?
Yes.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the Musicians Union.
Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students range in age from 15-50 and are learning many styles of music.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Tuition is in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Lessons are tailored to each student's individual requirements and preferences with the emphasis on learning songs or solos which contain a technique that is beneficial to the student. I place great importance on developing the student's musical ear as well as their playing ability.
