- Welcome to my profile! Come learn to sing in a beautiful and healthy way, and let's make great music together!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach singing to all ages and abilities. My specialty is classical music, but I am very happy to work on any number of styles with my students. My goal is to help my students learn to sing in a healthy and enjoyable way, as well as becoming better musicians and performing artists. I also work as a vocal coach, and am happy to teach lessons in musicianship as well.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I earned a Bachelors Degree of Music in Church Music from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina (USA) in 2005. My graduate study in music took me to Yale University, where I earned a Master of Music in Voice from the Yale School of Music in 2007, and later gained my Artist Diploma in Opera as part of the renowned Yale Opera studio in 2008. For the past seven years, I have been a teacher of singing, working with undergraduate and graduate students at Yale University, as well as privately with both younger and older amateur students. I have served as voice faculty for the Yale Glee Club and have taught privately several of the Yale Whiffenpoofs, as well as singing lessons and coachings for the Opera Theater of Yale College. I have also served as a graduate course assistant in music history at Yale, and have taught individual and group lessons in musicianship, ear-training, and sight-singing.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have extensive experience as a professional performer of opera, oratorio, recital, and choral music. My work has taken me throughout the United States and Europe as both soloist and ensemble member. In the summers of 2009 and 2010 I was a Britten/Pears Young Artist in Aldeburgh, and have an extensive performing experience in the areas of oratorio and recital, having been a competition finalist and winner with the American Bach Soloists and the Bach Choir of Bethlehem (PA), respectively. Other notable performance highlights include Messiah at Carnegie Hall, a recital of Charles Ives songs also at Carnegie Hall, and Schubert's monumental 'Winterreise' at Yale's Morse Recital Hall. A full biography can be found on my website, as listed above. I currently work as a soloist, consort singer, and deputy lay clerk around London, Oxford, Windsor, and throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.
- How much do you charge?
- My fee for an hourly lesson is £30. If traveling outside the immediate Oxford area, travel costs are negotiable depending upon transportation, etc. I am also happy to teach group lessons, for which the fee will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach in two studio locations in Oxford, one in Summertown and the other in Headington. I am also happy to travel to my students' homes in the immediate Oxford area. I am willing to travel elsewhere in Oxfordshire and to London, when provided suitable compensation for travel.
- When are you available?
- I am currently accepting new students on any day of the week, and am willing to negotiate scheduling arrangements as needed. I am willing and happy to accommodate the working and/or school schedules of all my students.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach students of all ages and levels of ability. However, students under the age of ten I will review on a case-by-case basis after a consultation with a parent or guardian, due simply to the physical development of the singing voice. I am happy to teach musicianship and other musical skills to students of any age.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- No.

Singing is simple... but not easy!
For as long as humans have been communicating with words and sounds, we have had something akin to what we now call "singing". For centuries, putting words to tones or music has been a way of elevating what we have to say; it gives beauty, further meaning, and importance to these words. With that in mind, we can say that singing is a simple...
