- I am a qualified teacher of EFL and the Alexander Technique with thirty-five years' experience of teaching Language Development to native speakers and speakers of other languages.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach English at A Level and ESOL, Language Development and writing skills at all levels.
I edit documents written by speakers of English as an additional language, and work with them to improve their writing.
I work with people with Asperger's Syndrome, using Language Development and the Alexander Technique, so that they can improve their communication skills and develop self-esteem. - Tell me about your qualifications.
- My first degree was a BA in English Literature from Oxford. I then did a PGCE at the University of Manchester, an RSA Diploma in TEFL, a teaching certificate in the Alexander Technique, and an MA in Applied Linguistics.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have many years' experience of tutoring and teaching in schools in the UK, Asia and Latin America. I have taught and prepared materials, policies and models of good practice. As a tutor, I have worked with individual students and with companies. For the last ten years I have also worked as an examiner of spoken English.
I have twenty years' experience of Asperger's Syndrome and I support students with the condition who wish to develop their communication skills and confidence. - How much do you charge?
- I charge from £24 to £35, depending on level and location. There is a discount for block bookings.
- Where do you teach?
- I work either at home or in Durham, Birtley, Chester le Street, Newcastle, Gateshead, and Stocksfield in Northumberland. I will travel up to fifteen miles from Stanley. I also work online, using email or Skype.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- I belong to STAT, the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I did my first degree in Oxford and my PGCE in Manchester. I have studied in Sheffield and I completed my MA in Applied Linguistics at the University of Northumbria in Newcastle. Don Burton was head of school when I studied the Alexander Technique in Kendal.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I have spent so many years teaching, examining and living among people from language and cultural backgrounds as diverse as Italy, Japan, Uganda and Aspergia, that adapting to the demands of other cultures now comes easily to me. Recently my clients have included Japanese employees resident in the UK, an electronic engineer from southeast Asia, a Chinese translator, a Dutch communications expert and a student with Asperger's Syndrome working towards a biology degree.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I prepare students for exams, but my main aim is to support clients so that they can clarify their aims, and then develop the language and self-esteem they need to achieve those aims.

Tutoring a (male) student with Asperger's Syndrome
Tutoring a (male) student with Asperger's Syndrome You will note that I have used 'he' throughout when talking about students. While there are many women with Asperger's Syndrome, they are in a minority, and my students have all been boys. I do not know enough about the condition in girls to write with any confidence about them. I have also...

My son. finds it very difficult to work with people he does not know due to his Asperger Syndrome. However Judith was extremely understanding and quickly built up a good working relationship with him as he began the process of getting his Asperger Syndrome diagnosis. Without Judith's help and support I do not believe my son would have gained his C grade GCSE. - The original of the testimonial is available on request. |

I have known Judith since my son was nine. He was brought up in Spain from the age of three to seven, and on coming to England was behind with his English grammar. Judith took the task on and today, at the age of 14, he is a confident young man ready to do his GCSE's next term. I find Judith a breath of fresh air when she comes into our house. We would not have got through these difficult times without her being so patient, kind and caring. - Mrs Bruce |

I want to express my appreciation for the tremendous job you did proofreading my technical reports on telecommunication. One of your strengths is that you are available at a moment's notice, so I don’t need to panic when meeting report deadlines. It is a pleasure working with you. You have a warm personal approach, and in my opinion you do your job very well. I hope to be able to use your help again and I can highly recommend your proofreading services to anyone who needs your professional support. - Phillip M. Technical Report Writer |

I appreciate your help during this exam period. You are efficient and supportive. It was good to receive your clarifications. I came up with a very satisfactory translation inspired by your explanation! I also found your comments penetrating and to the point, which was very helpful for a smoother translation - S W. student taking MA in Translation |
