- Personal Message
- I have been teaching subjects related to English, drama and business skills for ten years now and am passionate about releasing the potential in the student. In the end, I have acheived when you don’t need me any more.
I have had experience with everyone from GCSE students to HSBC board members, and success with them all. I pride myself on my ability to teach something genuinely tailored and useful to everyone individually. - Which subject(s) do you teach?
- English, Drama, Acting, Public Speaking.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- BA English UCL
BA Acting Guildhall School
CELTA Westminster Kingsway - What kind of experience do you have?
- I started teaching at the age of nineteen, when I did a CELTA qualification before going to UCL to study English Language and Literature. I then taught all levels and class sizes from one-to-one to twelve at a variety of colleges in central London including St Giles, Oxford house and Prince’s college. I taught during university holidays, evenings and weekends.
Soon after starting to teach, I began to take one-to-one classes by personal recommendation. Over the last eight or so years, I have taught one to one for people from a variety of industries, in a wide variety of subjects, based in EFL. I have taught Advanced and Proficiency exams, IELTS and accent reduction. I have also taught some GCSE English Literature and Language.
During my time at the Guildhall school, I was lucky enough to study with some of the best voice teachers in the country, including past and present heads of voice at the National theatre. It was here that I really honed my skills in speech and accent teaching, and I have been applying these skills over the last couple of years while teaching at Linguarama, a language training centre in the city. Here I have taught everything from pure English grammar, to elements of cultural awareness and presentation skills. I have taught clients from KPMG, PwC, HSBC, BCG and many other large international companies.
I have also used the knowledge gained during my time at drama school to help a number of people obtain places at drama schools, including one at RADA, as well as going back to my old secondary school on several occasions to teach devising and improvisation. - How much do you charge?
- £22.50/hr. Though I do offer a free, no-obligation first consultation.
- Where do you teach?
- I am very flexible with locations. I am happy to give lessons at my home in Hackney, or in many other parts of London.
- When are you available?
- Most times of the week can be arranged, though Sundays and evenings can get busy!
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- 16+, any level
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- No.

It's not as hard as you think!
When you first look at it, English grammar seems easy. Verbs with -s, -ed or -ing and that's it, right? Easy compared to, say french! Not really, as people quickly find out. Because English has so few forms, we have to use to use them in different ways. Think about this: I am typing an article. I am going to the dentist on Wednesday. (I...
One piece at a time
Learning a language is complex . There are so many things to think about. Tenses, vocabulary, sentence structure, pronunciation, inflection, the rules of politeness. How can you do it all at the same time? I have a simple approach, train it all seperately! Take the one thing you want to improve, and work on just that. For five minutes, an hour,...
Charisma!
People say that you cannot teach charisma, but I believe this is simply not true. Some people have it, sure, and those people are magnetic to watch, but it's perfectly possible to pick up what they're doing with a bit of help and a bit of hard work. Simplicity, clarity and clear vocal use are all skills that can be picked up, as is the...
My Testimonials

Jules is a teacher who was able to inspire me when I run out in interest in studying. He is a very flexible, well educated, intelligent, responsive and lateral thinking guy. He is also good company and a good sparring partner. He adapts the classes and programme personally. Jules is one of the best teachers I have ever studied with and I would strongly recommend him. - Maksim Gauttsel - Senior associate PwC |

I found Jules to be the most effective acting coach I’ve encountered; he is a natural teacher and understands the balance between being constructively critical but also sympathetic to the student working through new ideas and approaches. And crucially, he knows ultimately how to hand you the reins; most of all he gave me more confidence in myself and my command over my material. - Eva Traynor - RADA Graduate |

Jules is a fantastic teacher. He has a lot of experience and a great background. I have learnt a lot and not just about language but also about British culture. He is very demanding but this is what you need in this long and tough journey. The lessons are fun and he is always flexible with the contents. This is his creative side. I highly recommend Jules as I have done to all of my friends who have come over to live in London. - Cristina eBalanzo - Head of Neuromarketing TNS Global |

Jules has a fine knowledge of theatre together with an ability to get the best out of others, to deliver focused and exciting work, in his approachable and engaging manner. He engages well with students and has good control, enabling him to move them forward successfully. He has a clear idea of where he wants the work to go but allows the students opportunities to develop their own creativity. He is astute when it comes to selecting work and has a flair for directing students towards high achievement. - Lorraine Moore - Head of Drama, Simon Langton School |
