- Hi my name is Kara. I am a qualified teacher with over ten years of experience. I love teaching kids to enjoy reading and writing.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach the following subjects: English, Writing Composition, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning for 11+ Exams. I also teach KS2 and KS3 Literacy and English and GCSE and A Level English, English Language and English Literature.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am an American graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education. This qualifies me to teach English at both the Primary and Secondary level.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have ten years of teaching experience. I taught Secondary English for seven years and primary level for three years. I also have seven years of experience tutoring privately and for small groups of students at tutoring centres. I have always enjoyed working with kids with SEN and EAL students.
- How much do you charge?
- My fees range from £15-20/hr. Autumn special-book 10- 2 hour sessions and receive one hour free of charge. (I charge an extra £3 for travel outside my one mile area and £0.50/mi for additional mileage if I tutor at your home). Group rates are £12/hour. 1 1/2-2hr session minimum per daily booking. 24 hour notice for cancellation is required, otherwise a £10 service charge will apply. I give special discounts for new clients and if you are kind enough to refer others to me.
- Where do you teach?
- I can arrange to teach at your home or at the Arty Cafe in Belmont (Sutton). I am willing to travel to anywhere in Carshalton Beeches, Carshalton, Sutton, Cheam, Wallington, Morden, Merton, Wimbledon and Kingston all within a ten mile radius.
- When are you available?
- During the summer months and school holidays, I am available in the afternoons and evenings Monday-Saturday 2-9 pm. When school is in session, I am available generally from 4-8 pm on week days and on Saturday afternoons. An 11 Plus Fun group course will be held throughout the school year at the Arty Cafe' in Belmont, Sutton. It will feature learning essential skills for passing the 11 plus exam and strategies for obtaining top scores. The course will cover Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and English and Maths. I will use lots of interactive games, interactive hands on activities and cooperative learning to making preparing for the 11+ exam Fun!
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach a variety of students from the ages of 7-18. I am confident teaching KS2-A levels in Literacy and English.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- SATs, 11+, GCSE, A levels
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have an up-to-date CRB disclosure certificate which was carried out by a teaching agency.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I will tutor your child using an online interactive whiteboard, video/web cam and head phone/microphone. The online tutoring can be done as individual sessions or in a small group session. This method can be fun and more challenging for a more sophisticated student that enjoys technological communication.

- I currently tutor students whom are preparing for the 11+ exam and students preparing for GCSE English.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- My personal message is 'never give up'! I have faith that if you give yourself time to prepare for any exam and if you work hard, you will succeed. I am on your side and will help build your confidence and change your attitude from a 'I can't do this' to 'Yes I can!'
