Personal Message
Hi there! Thanks for having a look at my profile. I'm Kirsty, I live in Aberdeen and I love teaching!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano and drumkit from beginner levels to advanced. As I completed my grade 8 theory from the ABRSM, I am confident in teaching music theory for those simply interested or who want to sit the official theory examinations.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have studied piano for over seventeen years and drumkit for eleven years. I attended the University of Aberdeen, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in 2008. Last summer, I completed both a Diploma in Music Teaching for drumkit through ICMA (passing with Distinction) and gained my Associate Teaching Diploma for piano from the London College of Music. I also sat and passed the ABRSM Grade 8 Theory paper. This June, I gained my Licentiate Teaching Diploma for piano from the London College of Music (passing with distinction).
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for just over three years. I currently teach over 40 students privately and at the renowned Hamilton School in Aberdeen.
How much do you charge?
I charge £17.50 for 30 minutes and £25.00 for 60 minutes.
Where do you teach?
I teach from my home studio, but am able to travel if you have the instrument and we can find a mutually convenient time for our lessons. I currently travel from just outside Inverurie to Westhill.
When are you available?
I'm available for lessons every weekday from 8am to 9pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am capable of teaching all levels and happy to teach anyone over the age of 4 years old - any younger and the concentration levels aren't strong enough for a dedicated instrumental lesson.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
My students are put forward for London College of Music exams, ABRSM and Rockschool exams. If you or your child would like to sit a particular exam then please do let me know because I am up to date on most of the exam boards material.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I hold a valid disclosure and can provide references if necessary.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
Do you have a personal message for students?
In our lessons, you can expect to enjoy yourself. We play games and learn lots of fun stuff about our instrument and the people who write music for our instrument. All I ask of you is that you try hard! P.S. For the mums, dads, grannies and grandpas out there that have always wanted to learn to play, my approach doesn't change for you! We'll still play games, don't you worry! My rule also still applies. Just try, try again!
