Personal Message
I currently live in London and work as both a private tutor and an music assistant at a school. I am training to be a singer, in which profession I hope to combine my love of languages and of music.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
As a private tutor I teach French and Spanish as well as voice and piano. I also work with GCSE and A-level music students once per week at a school in South London.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I read music at Cambridge, where I was awarded a choral exhibition, an academic exhibition and an academic scholarship, graduating in 2008 with the Rudolph Peters Prize for Music. I also hold ABRSM diplomas in piano and voice (distinction) as well as A-levels at A grade in music, French, Spanish and mathematics.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have tutored since 2008, working partly through agencies and partly privately or through schools. From the start I have taught a mix of languages and music; work in schools aside, I currently have 4 French students, 2 Spanish students, 5 piano students, 3 singing students, 2 primary maths students and an ESL student! In 2009 I ran an intensive Easter revision course for GCSE/A-level music at Mander Portman Woodward School and I spent last year working at the British School of Beijing where I also ran a French club and a composition class. I currently teach GCSE/A-level music at Langley Park School for Boys on Tuesdays and spend the rest of my week travelling between tutees and singing.
How much do you charge?
Most tuition is at £30/h (languages GCSE at £27.50/h). I don't usually charge for travel, but this would depend on location, hours etc. (I cycle if I can). For groups of students, an extra £10/h is added per student. Also, if a cancellation is within 24 hours of the appointment and an alternative time is not possible, an hour's rate is chargeable.
Where do you teach?
I live in N4, North London, but travel to students' homes which are nearby or within zone 1. I currently have students in Finsbury Park, Highgate and Islington as well as in Notting Hill, Holland Park and Knightsbridge. Longer journeys are negotiable depending on hours of tuition and number of students (e.g. I teach 6 nearby students in Surbiton on a Saturday).
When are you available?
I usually have time on Sunday afternoon/evening and, after Christmas, will have time on Saturday mornings/afternoons. I have students on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings but I could tutor before/after depending on travel options.I am unavailable on Tuesdays as I work at the school10:30am to 9pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
My youngest 3 students are 10 years old, studying for the 11+, while I have others taking their GCSEs in music or languages, others at 12, 14, 14, 15 and 16 taking ABRSM exams, others studying for AS levels and even two mature students who are learning the piano. My job at the British School of Beijing was as a 1:1 TA to a year three boy so I also have a lot of experience teaching seven- and eight-year-olds.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
See above.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
My CRB is due for renewal and will be processed via my agency soon.
