About Lisa

- What kind of experience do you have?

Been teaching for 6 years. My love of teaching began whilst being the singing tutor at ''Footlights theatre school' in Manchester.
Last year I was a Musical Theatre teacher in an influential High School in Cardiff and had 15 private pupils ranging from 5 to 60 years old!

I am a working performer and I feel that being constantly in the industry benefits my teaching enormously with regards to understanding, repertoire and networking.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes.

- Where and with whom did you train?

The Arden School of Theatre - Manchester University with Roger Ward, Robert Purvis.
Vocal coaching over the years by Tim Rhys Evans, Catrin Darnell, Jeff Howard and Ian Barr.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Since moving to London two months ago I have developed a wide range of pupils. I have two beginner piano pupils, one at the tender age of three and the other 6.

I'm teaching singing technique to a gospel singer, teaching repertoire and audition technique to a under confident 17 year old, and I'm also teaching technique and repertoire to a 33 year old female tenor.

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been living in London for the last 4 years and have taught both Piano and Singing to children as young as three and adults ranging from professional Musical Theatre singers to complete beginner pianists. I started my own piano school in Canada Water where I now have two wonderful teachers teaching three days a week.
The good news is, I am thrilled to be back in Cardiff, and can't wait to start teaching all of you!
Professionally I also work as a singer in an acapella trio with my sisters called 'Sorela', and work as a presenter on Jonathan Davies' S4C show Jonathan.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Due to my education and upbringing, I strongly believe that playing an instrument singing or reading music is hugely beneficial in numerous ways.
It fosters creativity, improves memory and brainpower, teaches discipline and patience, and is an excellent way to express your self. You are never too young or too old to learn or appreciate music, and learning the language of music is something you'll never forget,

Thank you for reading! Diolch am ddarllen!

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

With regards to piano, I reached my grade 8 standard and absolutely hated my lessons when I was younger but am thrilled that I stuck them through, and now love teaching in a completely different way to how my teacher taught me!
I am a keen believer that learning through enjoyment and fun is the best way, but I also believe that doing grades with a prestigious board such as ABRSM is the best way of keeping focus and direction within the learning. I can teach from that first finger on the keyboard through to grade 6.

With regards to singing, I also reached my grade 8 and have a degree in Musical Theatre and Professional Stage Practice. I do not believe doing grades is the best way to learn singing but I am willing to put students through them if they wish. I strongly believe a good singer that will work in the future should have the ability to read music and this is incorporated throughout my teaching. Due to being educated chorally as a member of the National Choir of Wales and then also gaining a degree in Musical Theatre, this has given me an extensive repertoire and I can teach different styles of singing with confidence and passion. I believe my main strength as a singing teacher is my ability to identify with your needs as a singer and create a lesson structure and style accordingly.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have been teaching piano since I was 17 and have continued to do so since then, gaining 13 year experience. I absolutely love teaching and will always teach music.
