- Personal Message
- Teaching is a great way for pupils and teachers to share ideas. My lessons provide a friendly and encouraging atmosphere, whether the pupil is simply learning for fun or to achieve a specific goal.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- Violin is my principal instrument but I also teach viola to a similar level. I combine this with all the theory, aural and musicianship skills needed to create a well-rounded musician.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester for four years, achieving a first class BMus degree and the LRSM performance diploma. I am now studying for a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music where I completed the LRAM teaching diploma.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been extremely fortunate over the years to have been taught by a wide range of exceptional teachers, each offering wonderful insights into the different approaches teachers can have. I am able to draw on all these experiences to tailor my teaching style to the pupil in question, offering a personal and friendly atmosphere to achieve the best results.
- How much do you charge?
- Lesson fees are £30 per hour or £20 for 30 minutes (shorter lesson times are often advisable for early grades or very young learners). Consultation lessons are £20 per hour and £15 for 30 minutes and travel expenses may be charged on top of the lesson fee if applicable. This will all be agreed in advance.
- Where do you teach?
- I am based in Forest Hill, South East London. I travel to pupils' in the surrounding areas which include New Cross, Sydenham, Crystal Palace and Penge. I also have a few pupils up in North London (Harringay, Hornsey and Seven Sisters) so would be happy to teach in Highbury and Islington, Alexandra Palace, Finsbury Park and Turnpike Lane.
NEW!! I am now also teaching in Ditton, near Maidstone in Kent, where I teach from home (ME20). - When are you available?
- In most cases I will teach at any time which is convenient for the pupil, but as I work as a freelance musician it is not always possible for me to teach at the same time each week. However, notice will always be given in advance of any changes and time will always be made up if a week is missed.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- Any age is welcome - it is never too late to learn! I teach both violin and viola from beginner to advanced level.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I will never push a student to participate in graded exams if they feel they are not for them. However I am happy to teach all elements of the graded exams for ABRSM and Trinity/Guildhall examination boards. I am also happy to help students prepare for any other goals they wish to achieve, be it concerts, competitions or any other personal target. Pupils will always be kept up to date with the equivalent level of music theory and general musicianship needed to support their developing musicality and technical improvement.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I was CRB-checked at the RNCM as part of my BMus course.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM).
- Where and with whom did you train?
- My past teachers include Layne Aviss (Kent Music), Marguerite Wilkinson (Kent Music as part of the Kent Music Academy), Thomas Kemp (RNCM), Pavel Fischer (RNCM) and Mateja Marinkovich (RAM).

Max Bruch - Violin Concerto no. 3 in D minor
Max Bruch - Violin Concerto no. 3 in D minor I. Allegro Energico II. Adagio III. Finale (Allegro molto) The figure of Max Bruch in his mature years was a sorry one. The instant success of his first Violin Concerto in G minor early in his compositional career, premièred in its final version in 1867, ensured his place in musical history, but...
